Job Overview

We're seeking an experienced Staff Engineer, Payments & Loyalty to join our team and play a key role in driving the success of our payments platform. As a Staff Engineer, you will be responsible for leading the technical direction of our payments platform, architecting and building a platform that integrates with various systems inside and outside Wayfair, and driving the development of a long-term technology strategy for our Fintech and Loyalty environment. Key Responsibilities

  • Act as the technical lead in the payments space, designing and building a platform that integrates with various systems inside and outside Wayfair and partner globally
  • Play a critical role in developing and driving a long-term technology strategy for Wayfair's Fintech and Loyalty environment
  • Design and review code to implement high-quality, scalable, future-proof services that will have effective system limits and will support long-term vision and strategy
  • Lead technical discussions across the entire platform and help reach solid documented resolutions
  • Drive high-impact building solutions and active development, including initiation, design, implementation, and delivery following good design and coding practices
  • Fanatically focus on production readiness for the team, including testing, monitoring, deployment, documentation, and proactive troubleshooting
  • Identify risks and gaps in technical approaches and propose solutions to meet the department's technical vision
  • Influence and contribute to the department's strategy and roadmap
  • Support the growth of other engineers technically by mentoring, pairing, and creating other opportunities for education
  • Be remotely recognized as a collaborative and solid informed authority for the wider team's core area

Essential Qualifications

  • 2+ years of experience in engineering, with a preference for candidates with a mix of start-up and large company experience
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field
  • Experience with cloud-based technologies, distributed systems, and data-based technologies in the cloud
  • Excellent communication skills with demonstrated experience leading teams forward and ability to influence results
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing priorities

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in the payments engineering space, particularly with larger scope integrations (credit cards, financing, BNPL, apps)
  • E-commerce or customer-facing technology experience on a high-traffic website
  • Experience driving software changes within high-growth environments at scale
  • Experience with cloud-native technologies (GCP, AWS, Azure) at scale
  • Experience with distributed systems and data-based technologies in the cloud
