UX Researcher III – AR/VR Input Innovation (12-Month Contract)

Remote, USA Full-time Posted 2025-11-03
Are you passionate about shaping the future of human-computer interaction? Do you thrive in experimental environments where your research directly influences how people engage with emerging technologies? This opportunity offers a unique chance to work on groundbreaking AR and VR input modalities that are still in their infancy. We are seeking a UX Researcher III to join a highly specialized team focused on developing and refining novel input methods for immersive environments. This is a 12-month contract role where you’ll be at the forefront of innovation, helping determine whether technologies like camera vision bare hands, EMG, and eye tracking can become intuitive and scalable for real-world applications. What You’ll Be Doing You’ll be embedded in a collaborative prototyping team that values iteration, experimentation, and precision. Your work will span the full research lifecycle, and you’ll be expected to design, execute, and analyze studies that inform product development and interaction design. Key responsibilities include: • Collaborating with designers, engineers, and fellow researchers to define key questions and build studies that answer them. • Creating participant screeners, task lists, and measurement tools for both qualitative and quantitative research. • Preparing labs and hardware setups, troubleshooting experimental devices, and configuring telemetry data collection. • Running studies with participants and collecting data from prototypes. • Analyzing results using statistical methods and presenting insights through detailed reports and presentations. • Repeating the research cycle every two weeks with new prototypes and evolving questions. What You’ll Need to Succeed This role is ideal for someone who is methodical, curious, and technically adept. You’ll need to be comfortable working independently, managing your time effectively, and navigating ambiguity in a fast-paced environment. Required qualifications: • BA/BS in experimental psychology or a related field focused on human behavior (MA or PhD preferred). • At least 1 year of industry experience conducting interaction-based user research. • Strong methodological and statistical skills, including proficiency in R and univariate statistical analysis. • Experience working on shipping products, ideally involving AR, VR, or MR. • Ability to troubleshoot technical setups involving experimental hardware and software. • Excellent communication skills and the ability to present findings clearly and persuasively. Preferred qualifications: • Experience with hardware product development cycles. • Familiarity with Tableau and data visualization. • Deep understanding of VR interaction loops such as attack, decay, sustain, and release. Why This Role Is Special This is not your typical UX research position. You’ll be working on technologies that are still being defined, and your research will help determine whether futuristic inputs can become mainstream. You’ll gain deep expertise in immersive interaction design and contribute directly to products that could redefine how we engage with digital environments. Additional benefits of the role: • Collaborate with world-class design and engineering partners. • Learn about optics, social spaces, and 3D interaction design. • Help shape the future of AR/VR inputs and get new interactions into shipping products. • Work in a highly iterative environment where new studies are launched every two weeks. Contract Details • Duration: 12 months • Travel: May be required • Equipment: Laptop, badge, desk, and email access provided If you’re excited by the idea of working on the frontier of AR/VR research and want to be part of a team that’s shaping the future of interaction, we’d love to hear from you. $55.00 per hour - $60.00 per hour Exact compensation may vary based on several factors, including skills, experience, and education.
