Tutors receive training that will allow them to plan for student success, track progress, and align their work with district curriculum and state standards. Summer reading tutors must commit to attend professional development prior to the beginning of the summer session. Qualified tutors include: Current teachers Retired teachers Teacher education candidates Higher education students Community members (must have high school diploma or equivalent) Program Dates: Session 1 June 20, 2023 – July 14, 2023; No school July 5 Session 2 July 17, 2023 – August 4, 2023 Schedule: Classes meet Monday - Thursday. No class on Fridays. Session 8:00 am – 10:00 am Tutors report: 7:45 am – 10:15 am Position Responsibilities: • Use instructional methods that improve student achievement • Assign and evaluate appropriate student work • Involve students in learning • Make effective use of entire class period • Use appropriate school support and resource materials • Convey to students learning goals and the importance of material learned • Be clear in explanations and directions • Provide continuity in learning activities • Challenge students by using appropriate questioning strategies • Adjust the teaching pace to assure maximum student understanding • Communicate high expectations for student performance • Establish a positive and safe learning environment • Address different styles of learning by employing a variety of instructional techniques and materials • Develop, communicate, and enforce a set of classroom rules, policies, procedures, and expectations which are consistent with school and department policies and with learning outcomes • Collaborate with team members to design assessments and be creative and innovative in the use of curricular and instructional materials Professionally Related Competencies 1.Perform promptly the responsibilities stipulated in Board of Education policies and administrative procedures 2.
