Controller/Bookkeeper
Brian-Kyles is a rapidly growing landscape design, installation, and maintenance company serving Northeast Ohio and the greater Indianapolis area. Our dynamic and professional team is committed to excellence, creativity, and collaboration. We are currently seeking a skilled Part-Time Bookkeeper to join our in-person office team.
This role is ideal for someone who is detail-oriented, experienced in bookkeeping within the construction industry, and proficient in QuickBooks. You will play an essential role in maintaining financial records and supporting project logistics, vendor management, and office operations.
Duties and Responsibilities
• Full financial statement responsibility, including month end close procedures, bank and account reconciliations, and preparation of Balance Sheet and Income Statement.
• Daily cash flow management including timely payment of accounts payable and receipt of accounts receivable.
• Weekly payroll processing support, recording, and reconciliation.
• Preparation of annual budget and monthly review of budget to actual results.
• Preparation and filing of monthly sales tax, CAT quarterly, annual 1099s, and annual worker’s compensation payroll audit.
• Act as a liaison between the company and CPA firm for annual tax filings.
• Maintain a system of control over accounting transactions.
• Maintain and modify the chart of accounts as necessary.
• Recommend benchmarks against which to measure the performance of company operations.
• Calculate and issue financial and operating metrics.
• Provide financial analyses as needed, in particular for capital investments, pricing decisions, and contract negotiations.
Required Qualifications & Attributes
• Associate’s Degree in Business Administration or Accounting. (Bachelor’s Degree preferred)
• Previous audit, general ledger or bookkeeper experience, especially within a small business.
• Proficient with QuickBooks and Excel.
• Experience with Ohio Business Gateway and related tax filings.
• Comfortable using electronic bill pay and communication methods.
• Strong sense of fiscal responsibility.
• Creative problem solving skills.
• Superior leadership, time management, organizational, and communication skills.
The Controller/Bookkeeper position is responsible for the accounting operations of the company, to include the production of monthly financial reports, maintenance of an adequate system of accounting records, and a comprehensive set of controls and budgets designed to mitigate risk, manage cash, enhance the accuracy of the company’s reported financial results, and ensure that reported results comply with GAAP.
This support can be provided in person or remotely with company provided technology.
