Electrical & Mechanical Design Engineer

Remote, USA Full-time Posted 2025-11-03
Overview At HighQ, we strive to provide talented engineers with three things – challenging work, a great team, and a strong work-life balance. We want to provide the opportunity to pursue all of your passions, inside and outside of work. We're looking for engineers that are thrilled to work on things that make noise and go fast, engineers that like mixing hardware and software, and engineers who aren't afraid of diving into a problem they haven't seen before. We need engineers that want to do great things at work and then take a break to conquer a mountain, film a movie, or sail across an ocean. Nobody at HighQ is solely an electrical engineer or mechanical engineer; everyone is expected to contribute across disciplines through design, prototyping, testing, analysis, and integration. Our projects don't fit neatly into traditional engineering silos – they require creative problem-solving that blends engineering knowledge with specific skills in software, electrical design, mechanical design, systems integration, and real-world implementation. At the end of the day, when everyone's systems work together, the whole team succeeds. We don't require that folks have an aerospace background – in fact some of our best people come from other industries. Our projects span from custom PCBs and hardware-in-the-loop testing platforms to power distribution systems, RF data links, and entire avionics systems. Roles & Responsibilities We are seeking a design engineer to work in a supportive and collaborative team to create innovative aerospace and industrial systems. The ideal candidate is an engineer who has a passion for solving complex technical challenges, thrives in an interdisciplinary environment, and has the determination to create successful, reliable hardware and systems. Additional desired qualities include: • Experience with engineering design, including: modeling, building, testing, analysis, and documentation • Eagerness to learn and teach; ability to communicate complex technical concepts and share knowledge with others • Strong background in mathematics, engineering fundamentals, and problem-solving • Hands-on experience with building hardware in a project, laboratory, or workplace setting • Familiarity with CAD software and engineering analysis tools In addition, specific project assignments will be tailored to both your background and our current client needs. The following are examples of common responsibilities at HighQ, although experience is not necessarily required in any of the following: Electrical engineering: Aircraft control panel design, relay logic development, electrical load analysis and power distribution design, PCB design, component selection and circuit design, electrical system integration and troubleshooting, and creating electrical schematics and wiring diagrams. Mechanical engineering: Simple mechanical system design, designing enclosures and mounting hardware, CAD drafting and design review, developing assembly procedures, and supporting prototype testing and validation. Systems integration: Cross-disciplinary problem solving, supporting electrical and mechanical system integration, participating in design reviews and technical documentation, customer communication and project support, and field installation and commissioning support. Required Experience • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent, along with 4+ years of experience in design and development activities. • Understanding of electrical fundamentals including circuit analysis, power systems, and control concepts. • Basic knowledge of mechanical design principles and manufacturing processes. • Experience with engineering CAD tools such as OnShape, NX, SolidWorks, or similar. • Experience with KiCAD, Altium, or similar schematic capture and PCB design tools. • Experience with electrical testing equipment or mechanical prototyping. • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities. • Excellent communication skills for team collaboration and customer interaction. Bonus Points Knowledge of relay logic, control systems, or automation. Familiarity with aircraft systems, avionics, or aerospace applications. Pilot’s license or other aviation experience. Culture HighQ offers competitive compensation and a flexible work environment that truly supports work-life balance. We believe in providing opportunities for professional growth through challenging projects, mentorship from experienced engineers, and exposure to cutting-edge aerospace projects. Our collaborative culture values innovation, continuous learning, and the pursuit of excellence both inside and outside of work. Get in Touch If the above sounds good to you, reach out to us with a resume or any documentation that shows you've built cool things and solved interesting problems. Our work is too varied, and, we think, too interesting to fit into standard job descriptions – if you get excited by the prospect of tackling diverse engineering challenges while maintaining time for your other passions, we'd love to connect.
