Large Animal Clinical Veterinarian (Field Veterinarian 2)
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Large Animal Clinical Veterinarian to join our team at the University of California, Davis. As a key member of the California Veterinary Emergency Team (CVET), you will play a critical role in developing and implementing animal care standards, providing hands-on training to disaster responders, and engaging with key stakeholders to ensure the best possible response to disasters involving domestic animals and livestock in California.
In this dynamic and rewarding role, you will have the opportunity to work on a wide range of activities, including disaster response, research, teaching, and public service. You will provide essential clinical medical work and management of veterinary personnel during disaster response, and assist in CVET preparedness activities, research, and teaching during non-emergency periods.
We offer a competitive salary range of $7,383.33 - $13,883.33 per month, commensurate with experience, and a comprehensive benefits package. Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement animal care standards for disaster response
- Provide hands-on training to disaster responders
- Engage with key stakeholders to ensure effective disaster response
- Provide clinical medical work and management of veterinary personnel during disaster response
- Assist in CVET preparedness activities, research, and teaching
Requirements:
- DVM/VMD/BVSc degree from an accredited school of veterinary medicine
- Appropriate federal/California veterinary licenses (or ability to acquire required licenses within 6 months of hire)
- Experience in the treatment of, and husbandry for domestic large animals and livestock
- Experience managing animal care activities, including supervision of staff and volunteers
- Knowledge and experience in teaching, research, and emergency response management
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience managing animal care activities within a disaster response/shelter environment
- Experience in conducting and publishing hypothesis-driven research
- Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate complex information to volunteers and the public
