About the Center for World Languages and Cultures (CWLC)

The CWLC at the University of Denver promotes intercultural competency, language learning, and cultural exploration. As part of the College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences (CAHSS), we integrate languages and cultures into various disciplines, building inclusive communities through language and cultural experiences.

Job Summary

We seek a dynamic Teaching Assistant Professor - Arabic to teach first-year Arabic language sequences, culture courses, and intermediate-level language courses. The ideal candidate will demonstrate teaching excellence, commitment to culturally responsive teaching, and innovative approaches to language learning.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Teach eight classes over three academic quarters, including first-year language courses, culture courses, and intermediate-level language courses
  • Develop first-year sequence curriculum and assessments
  • Create and oversee Arabic language placement tests
  • Advise students on placement and participate in retention and recruitment efforts
  • Implement program assessment and work closely with CWLC faculty

Requirements:

  • Master's degree or ABD in Arabic Studies, Arabic Linguistics, Second Language Acquisition, or Education
  • Native or near-native fluency in Arabic and English
  • 2+ years of teaching experience in university-level language courses in the United States
  • Evidence of teaching using task-based, communicative methodologies and culturally responsive teaching practices

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in Arabic Studies, Arabic Linguistics, Second Language Acquisition, or Education
  • 3+ years of teaching experience in university-level Arabic courses
  • Experience in program development and extended residence in Arabic-speaking countries
