Assistant Professor of Land-Atmosphere Interactions

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Assistant Professor of Land-Atmosphere Interactions to join our dynamic team at Montana State University. As a key member of our Department of Land Resources and Environmental Sciences, you will play a crucial role in advancing our understanding of land-atmosphere interactions and contributing to the development of sustainable management practices for natural and agricultural ecosystems.
Job Summary:
- Develop and lead a research program focused on land-atmosphere interactions, with a emphasis on belowground hydrology and soil-water dynamics
 - Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in subjects such as surface-atmosphere exchange, biometeorology, environmental biophysics, and critical zone hydrology
 - Mentor and advise undergraduate and graduate students, and contribute to the development of curricular programs
 - Collaborate with colleagues across scientific disciplines and engage with stakeholders, Extension staff, and Research Centers to inform discovery and application of land-atmosphere interaction research
 - Contribute to departmental citizenship, participate in professional societies, and engage with the community consistent with the missions of a Land Grant University and the Montana Agricultural Experiment Station
 
Requirements:
- Ph.D. in land-atmosphere interactions, critical zone hydrology, environmental biophysics, or a closely related field
 - Strong communication skills, including a publication record of peer-reviewed journal articles
 - Commitment to cultural diversity, both within the university and with external constituents
 
Preferred Qualifications:
- Record of conducting innovative research on land-atmosphere interactions with specific attention to the movement of water within soils and the shallow subsurface
 - Demonstrated potential to write grant proposals and secure funding
 - Demonstrated potential for excellence in undergraduate and graduate instruction and mentoring
 - Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in interdisciplinary teams
