PowerBI and SAP support
The Los Angeles Department of Building and Safety (LADBS) is looking for a Programmer Analyst to assist Systems staff in supporting their current SAP environment and transitioning to Power BI for LADBS’s reporting infrastructure.
Evaluation Criteria:
• Knowledge and experience maintaining and upgrading SAP.
• Knowledge and experience working with PowerBI.
• Knowledge and experience supporting SAP and PowerBI, both for end users and for administration.
• Experience in the analysis, design, modification or implementation of computer-based information systems.

Power BI Responsibilities
• Recreate active SAP reports in Power BI, prioritizing those with high usage or operational impact.
• Design standardized Power BI dashboards aligned with LADBS’s visual and functional standards.
• Configure recurring Power BI subscriptions to replicate SAP’s scheduled report delivery functionality.
• Develop reusable Power BI templates and shared datasets for efficient report generation.
• Mentor LADBS staff in Power BI dashboard development, workspace management, and report publishing.
• Migrate reporting data pipelines into Power BI or Microsoft Fabric for performance and governance optimization.
• Build and maintain a centralized Power BI report catalog with ownership, data lineage, and access controls.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to define KPIs and refine dashboard visualization effectiveness.
• Provide user documentation, training materials, and recorded walkthroughs.
• Ensure Power BI reports, data models, and pipelines are designed for future integration with systems such as Clariti, Microsoft Fabric, and LADBS GIS.
• Coordinate with LADBS integration and data engineering teams to ensure alignment with scalable architecture, naming conventions, and cross-platform data flows.
SAP Responsibilities
• Conduct a comprehensive inventory of LADBS’s ~1,200 SAP reports, documenting usage, owners, frequency, data sources, and delivery channels.
• Analyze the report inventory to identify duplicates, obsolete content, or unused reports, and provide clear recommendations for deletion or consolidation.
• Provide full support for SAP Crystal Reports and Web Intelligence reports.
• Troubleshoot SAP report and system issues for internal and external users.
• Maintain the existing SAP reporting infrastructure and ensure continued accessibility.
• Document SAP integration points and support decommissioning of legacy dependencies.
• Ensure compliance with IT security and data integrity standards.
• Coordinate with LADBS technical staff and project managers to manage workload and report lifecycle.
• Support and document administrative functions related to SAP reporting, scheduling, and user access.
• Assist in creating system documentation, training materials, and best practice guides.
