Job title: Oberlin-UNITAR ESOL Lecturers (Applicant Pool) Company: Oberlin College & Conservatory Job description : Announcement Information Job Summary Oberlin College invites applications for English for Speakers of Other Languages Program lecturer positions for the newly established Oberlin-UNITAR collaboration. This is a POOL posting accepting applications on a rolling basis for positions that may open during the 2023-2024 academic year pending program launch. Lecturers may be hired to teach a variety of in-person or remote ESOL courses, reporting to the Director of the Oberlin-UNITAR Programs. Oberlin-UNITAR ESOL Summer Immersion Program Oberlin College and Conservatory is one of the most distinguished of America's liberal arts colleges and conservatories of music. In partnership with the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR), the Oberlin-UNITAR ESOL Program was conceived for students to build academic English proficiency as they prepare for higher education opportunities in the United States. While each program will be tailored to address specific learning goals identified through UNITAR partnerships, students in all English language courses will strengthen their comprehension and skills in reading, vocabulary, writing, grammar, speaking, and listening. Each program will augment effective language pedagogy with peer mentoring, tutoring, guest lectures, and/or one-on-one language practice. Responsibilities Teach English to speakers of other languages in virtual or in-person formats as directed Essential Job Functions Responsibilities: * Create and maintain engaging learning environments Teach reading and vocabulary, listening and speaking, grammar and writing through an integrative curriculum Design and conduct lessons based on communicative, task-based TESOL language pedagogy Assess, document, and provide daily feedback on students' progress toward learning objectives Differentiate instruction to provide effective learning opportunities that address individual needs and provide targeted intervention when necessary Hold office hours each week outside of regularly scheduled class times Attend a curriculum orientation for lesson development and ongoing weekly team meetings Meet and collaborate with teaching assistants to support and enhance classroom instruction Marginal Job Functions Other duties as assigned Required Qualifications M.A. or M.Ed. in TESOL, TEFL, TESL, or related fields A bachelor's degree with TESOL certification or endorsement will be considered. * Two or more years of experience teaching English Language Learners, preferably in a higher education setting Demonstrated excellence in teaching across a range of language proficiency levels in all language skills (reading, writing, listening, speaking, grammar, vocabulary, culture) Experience working collaboratively and effectively with students, faculty, administrators, support staff, and outside entities both domestically and internationally Excellent oral and written communication skills Familiarity and skill with educational technology, including learning management software such as Blackboard Desired Qualifications International experience and experience learning an additional language is preferred Quick Link for Posting Compensation The salary range for this position is commensurate with professional teaching experience and duration of teaching assignments in this program.
