Our team has years of experience building and operating business-critical machine learning systems at leading tech companies like Uber, Google, Meta, Airbnb, Lyft, and Twitter.As an Engineering Manager on the Compute Infrastructure team, you will play a critical role in shaping the team’s strategic direction and implementation of the building blocks that power Tecton’s data computation engine. The CI team makes it easy to spin up new highly available and performant compute workloads across our Batch, Streaming, and Realtime use-cases, for both Spark and our in-house . You will partner across the business to develop enterprise-grade solutions to core engineering challenges that impact multiple parts of the Tecton platform, such as:Multi-Cloud Orchestration at Scale - building cloud-agnostic APIs that provision and manage dynamic compute workloads across first- and third-party compute platforms on multiple Cloud providers.Unified Observability - creating consolidated metrics and logging infrastructure spanning batch jobs, long-running services, and real-time workloads.Seamless Python packaging -supporting Python-native environments that safely combine Tecton’s first-party requirements with customer-defined dependencies.These challenges combine cutting-edge platform engineering with real business impact at the intersection of ML infrastructure and enterprise-scale data processing.This position is open to candidates based anywhere in the United States. You can work in one of our hub offices in San Francisco, New York City, Seattle or work fully remotely from outside those areas within the US.ResponsibilitiesLead and grow a high-performing team of software engineers, providing mentorship, career development, and recruiting top talent.Drive the roadmap for Tecton's self-service compute infrastructure platform, ensuring alignment with business objectives.Deliver cloud-agnostic APIs and abstractions that enable teams to deploy and manage compute workloads with enterprise-grade reliability.Partner with peer managers to shape cross-team technical roadmaps and align core operational requirements across batch, streaming, and real-time capabilities.Make strategic prioritization decisions and manage execution risks to ensure on-time delivery of platform capabilities without compromising quality.Maintain accountability for team success, proactively identifying blockers and opportunities while fostering a collaborative, product-minded engineering culture.QualificationsMinimum of 2 years of people management experience managing teams of 5+ engineers.Minimum of 7 years of software engineering experience (IC + manager).Minimum of 3 years of experience building data or compute platforms.Hands-on experience with big data compute platforms such as Data Warehouses (Snowflake, Redshift, BigQuery) and Spark (Databricks, EMR).Hands-on experience building infrastructure/platforms that enable other internal teams to deliver business value more rapidly.Nice-to-have: enterprise experience.The estimated US base salary range for this position is $219,000 - $292,000 annually for employees based within California & New York. In addition to base salary, we offer competitive equity & comprehensive benefits such as medical, dental, vision, life, 401(K), flexible paid time off, 10 paid holidays each calendar year, sick time, leave of absence as per the FMLA and other relevant leave laws. Individual compensation packages are based on multiple factors such as location, level, role scope, and complexity, as well as additional job-related factors such as skills, experience, and expertise.Tecton is a remote-friendly company that employs a hybrid working policy for employees based in the SF, NY, and Seattle areas. We believe that working in-person helps us stay connected, collaborate faster, and promote a strong culture while still providing the flexibility of working from home.
