Job description: The Visiting Professor of Teaching and Learning will teach primarily within the Master's in Teaching (MAT), Master's in Teaching Online (OMAT), Master's in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (MATESOL), and Master's of Science in Education (MSED) Online programs. These programs prepare students for careers in K-12 teaching, teaching English to speakers of other languages, educational leadership; and further advanced graduate study (e.g., doctoral programs in education). These aims are consistent with the mission of Pepperdine University to prepare students for lives of service, purpose, and leadership. The primary responsibility of the Visiting Professor position is to teach courses in the Education Division (primarily MAT, OMAT, TESOL, and MSED programs).Duties

• 80% time spent teaching in the education division programs. This would primarily be in the MAT, OMAT, TESOL, and MSED programs.


• 20% time spent attending faculty and divisional meetings; serving on division, school, and/or university committees (including dissertations); participation in other division, school, and/or university events.


• Regular communication with program chairs and course leads of classes taught to ensure up-to-date and timely implementation of course-related content, assignments, and policies.


• Participation in service and leadership activities at the department and university levels (e.g., committees; school, division, University standing, dissertation, or ad-hoc committees).


• Perform other duties as assigned.


• Uphold the University mission through work performed.

It is not designed to contain or be interpreted as a comprehensive inventory of all duties, responsibilities, and qualifications required of employees assigned to this job.Skills and QualificationsRequired:A terminal degree (PhD or EdD) in Curriculum and Instruction, Education, Teaching and Learning, and Instructional Design/Learning Technologies, or a closely related field; Learning Management System (LMS) experience; experience with technology-enhanced learning and blended learning environments; residing in the southern California area; demonstrated record of excellence in teaching; and service; attention and commitment to diversity; excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills; exceptional attention to detail, strong organization and time management skills, and the ability to perform routine and non-routine work with changing priorities; sound problem-solving and decision-making abilities, both as an independent entity and as part of a team; proficiency with video conferencing technology.Preferred:At least 2 years previous experience in teaching on-ground, hybrid, or online at the graduate level in education; K12 teaching credential and/or K12 teaching experience; expertise in pedagogical practices, instructional design and teaching methods, educating multilingual learners; fluency with digital technologies and tools for teaching and learning; record of service and leadership to community and/or professional organizations; familiarity with relevant field-specific licensure, credentialing guidelines, and regulations as they pertain to graduate training.
