FSDB is nationally recognized for its comprehensive educational services, designed for the unique communication and accessibility needs of students. FSDB also provides educational outreach programs for children ages 0-5 and their families. The FSDB experience provides students with the edge to do more, be more, and achieve more.How you will make an impactThe incumbent of this position teaches sensory impaired students in a state-mandated academic program.

• Conduct and direct student learning experiences using written lesson plans that cover the requirements of the State with regard to the Current Florida Curriculum Standards and course descriptions;
• Use required instructional materials with fidelity to introduce and develop concepts;
• Develop and maintain a classroom management program; Identify/develop, implement, use, monitor and evaluate long and short term objectives based on students' IEPs;
• Analyze and utilize student data to drive instruction;
• Monitor student progress based on the goals of the IEP, and FSDB and State mandated objectives;
• Record and report data on individual students, i.e., keep grade books, report cards, progress monitoring reports, incident reports, interim reports, attendance records, etc;
• Document and correct disruptive student behavior in accordance with school policies and procedures;
• Maintain a professional relationship with students, parents and other staff members;
• Attend trainings/meetings and implement skills acquired during professional development activities as required by Federal, State and FSDB mandates;
• Performs other related duties as assigned;

• Knowledge of the educational needs of deaf/hard-of-hearing and/or blind/visually impaired students;
• Knowledge of the principles and techniques of effective communications; Knowledge of the principles, methods and techniques of teaching;
• Knowledge of the principles of human learning, behavior and counseling;
• Knowledge of the principles and techniques of curriculum development;
• Ability to teach individuals in a classroom setting using the principles of differentiated instruction;
• Ability to prepare teaching plans, courses, activities and learning experiences for a variety of students;
• Ability to develop appropriate curriculums;
• Ability to handle problems, concerns and emotional distress with sensitivity and tact;
• Ability to utilize problem-solving techniques;
• Ability to work independently;
• Ability to understand and apply applicable rules, regulations, policies and procedures relating to classroom teaching;
• Ability to plan, establish priorities and implement activities for maximum effectiveness;

• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others; Ability to maintain certification in the appropriate content/subject area;
• Ability to maintain certification in the appropriate sensory impaired area; Ability to apply the principles of Response to Intervention;
• Ability to communicate effectively using sign language by signing across the continuum (English word order to ASL) meeting the needs of each student;
• Ability to pass training and administer skills acquired during CPI and CPR;

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree or higher in related field,
• Current state of Florida educator certification in Math 6-12 and Teacher of the Visually Impaired K-12 or ability to obtain within a reasonable period of time upon hire,
• 3 semester hours or 60 inservice hours in ESOL training or the ability to obtain when hired.

Preferred:Master’s Degree in related field and teaching experienceSign Language RequirementsApplicants who are selected for hire will be encouraged to learn American Sign Language.Please note: The Florida School for the Deaf and the Blind provides education to acquire sign language skills.Hiring Salary Range: 10-month position (190 Days): $51,371.25 - $55,102.43 annually. This range is inclusive of verified experience. Employees shall receive compensation for higher education beyond a bachelor’s degree as noted below.Master’s Degree: additional $2,400Master’s +30, or 2nd Master’s Degree, or Education Specialist, or Doctorate Degree: additional $2,400Employees may earn any combination of degrees and receive that amount.
