Our DEI Council started 21 years ago, and today we continue to foster a culture where all employees can experience a sense of belonging, shared purpose and possibility.The Role:Responsible to support the design engineering, planning and coordination of system improvement and replacement projects in the high pressure and transmission systems across the NW Natural service territory. Provides engineering support for execution of large capital and special projects as necessary to meet department and Company goals. Coordinate work with departments to ensure continuity of service and fulfillment of installation commitments, cost objectives, governmental requirements, and safety and engineering standards. The position is based in the Sherwood Resource Center and projects are located across the NW Natural service territory.Position is in person 4 days/week and 1 day/week remote.Day to Day:
- Provides design engineering, planning, coordination, and monitoring of large construction and pressure uprate projects. Prepares written, on-site gas operations procedures to ensure safe and efficient work methods are used.
- Supports Project Management activities including develop design scope, develop and manage schedule, complete construction estimates and manage budgets.
- Designs, reviews and approves construction drawings to ensure engineering standards are followed. Provides oversight of consultants for design support and contractors for construction as needed.
- Support cost analysis of alternatives to determine cost effective installation practices. Supports and coordinates crew and equipment resources to ensure installations are timely and within budget.
- Maintains ongoing communication with local and state permit and regulatory agencies and contractors to protect the Company's interest and coordinate construction activities.
- Responds to a variety of inquiries/concerns from customer, Company personnel or the general public; resolves by coordinating necessary resources.
- Demonstrates appropriate decision-making behaviors; maintains technical job knowledge and personal skill development.
- Adheres to and promotes the philosophies and directives of the Collaborative Bargaining Agreement.
- Supports Company’s commitment to a culture of safe work practices.
- This position may require travel, primarily but not exclusively, within service territory.
- Requires a bachelor's degree in engineering- preferably civil, mechanical or gas engineering or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Engineering requires 3+ years of experience.
- Ability to register as a Professional Engineer (PE) is highly desired.
- Must have strong problem solving and critical thinking skills and the ability to identify the strengths and weaknesses of different approaches.
- Experience to plan and effectively manage a variety of projects.
- Ability to organize multiple tasks and manage time effectively to meet deadlines and balance priorities.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills to successfully collaborate with individuals at all levels of the organization, government representatives and contractor personnel on technical matters governing construction projects.
- Ability to function in a team environment, provide information to office and field employees in a professional manner.
- Proven skills in PC/computer systems, including word processing, spreadsheet and database applications.
- Experience in the application of the following is beneficial: federal pipeline safety rules, American Public Works Association, construction standards, and OSHA regulations.
- Knowledge and experience in the application of Project Management principles beneficial.
- Experience developing construction estimates, evaluate budget reports and construction beneficial.
- Ability to visit and access construction and other worksite locations as required.
- Possess/maintain a valid Oregon or Washington driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record.
- Subject to random drug testing.
