The Emergency Mental Health Crisis Center is a special unit of Children’s Mercy Emergency Department specifically designed to care for children experiencing a behavioral health emergency. The therapeutic environment provides not only care, but assessment, treatment recommendations and care navigation for a family in crisis.The Emergency Mental Health Crisis Center is within the Children’s Mercy Adele Hall Emergency Department. This is a new, fully staffed zone of the ED, including screening, assessment, triage, referral, care coordination, and short-term stabilization. The crisis center will include 4 safe rooms, 5 consult rooms, 5 observation beds, and 2 triage rooms.The Children’s Mercy Division of Emergency Medicine provides the highest level of care to sick and injured children and adolescents in the Kansas City region. The PA will provide autonomous direct patient management, with the ability to collaborate with physicians of emergency medicine and psychiatry. Responsibilities include completing thorough history and physical assessments, ordering/interpreting lab tests, developing differential diagnosis, implementing plans of care, and coordinating the disposition process. The Behavioral Health Crisis Center PA will be expected to work effectively with the medical team by communicating clearly with families, working well with physicians and physician trainees, being a resource for nursing staff, and collaborating with multiple subspecialties that function in the emergency department.Physician Assistants II (PA-II) provide proficient, comprehensive health care services to a defined patient population; obtaining the health history; performing a physical examination, diagnostic, and therapeutic procedures; formulating and implementing a plan of care; and participating in patient and family education. - Master's Degree Required and 1-2 years experience 1-2 years Pediatric Physician Assistance experience. Skillful use of the electronic health record (EHR). Preferred in specialty practice and/or pediatrics

- Successful completion of the NCCPA Certification Exam Required Upon Hire
