**Job Summary**
We are seeking a highly motivated and customer-focused individual to join our team as a Customer Service Assistant. In this role, you will provide exceptional support to customers, engage with lifelong learners, and contribute to the overall success of our Adult Services Department. **Responsibilities**
As a Customer Service Assistant, you will be responsible for:
* Providing general information in person and by phone, assisting customers in locating and discovering materials, connecting with available library services, or providing information about the library, referring reference questions to the appropriate resource;
* Assisting customers with self-check-out machines by instructing how to charge, renew, and discharge library materials to/from customers;
* Assisting customers with Digital Literacy Lab;
* Registering customers by issuing and updating library cards;
* Sorting and routing returned materials to proper location and ensuring that the library is neat and organized so customers can easily find what they need;
* Collaborating with colleagues to achieve departmental goals and objectives;
* Participating in ongoing training and professional development to enhance customer service skills and knowledge of library resources and services.
**Requirements**
To be successful in this role, you will need:
* A high school diploma or equivalent;
* Customer service experience, preferably in a library or related setting;
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills;
* Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with multiple priorities and deadlines;
* Strong problem-solving and analytical skills;
* Ability to lift up to 20 pounds and stand for long periods;
* Flexibility to work a variety of shifts, including evenings and weekends.
**Preferred Qualifications**
* Experience working in a library or related setting;
* Knowledge of library resources and services;
* Familiarity with digital literacy programs and services;
* Bilingual or multilingual skills;
* Experience working with diverse populations and communities.
