Assistant/Associate Professor of History

Click here to readGENERAL OBJECTIVES: The College of Humanities and Social Sciences at Dallas Baptist University is presently receiving applications for a full-time Assistant/Associate Professor of History to start June 2025. Rank and compensation will be commensurate with experience. The successful candidate will teach in their assigned discipline and work with their deans and department chairs in all matters related to their teaching assignments, and other duties. QUALIFICATIONS: Academic Requirements:Graduate Degree: Must hold the terminal degree, usually the earned doctorate, in the teaching discipline or a related discipline.Responsibilities:Faculty members are expected to be loyal to Dallas Baptist University and professional in the discharge of their duties. Although not all encompassing, the following designates basic responsibilities, which the faculty members should perform:Dallas Baptist University is a teaching university. DBU places the highest priority on excellence in teaching in the classroom, which is reflected and modeled in thorough scholarship, expertise in the discipline, and a variety of methods of instruction.The full-time faculty position in the History Department will include the preparation and teaching of survey level and advanced history courses, in various delivery methods (in-class, hybrid, and online).Faculty members will usually teach 4 courses a semester for the Fall and Spring and 2 in the Summer/Winter for a total of 10 courses in an academic year. Faculty members will maintain at least ten (10) office hours each week in addition to being generally available for students and administrative duties.Every faculty member should see their role as a ministry to the student, challenging and encouraging them in their Christian walk. As such, the integration of faith and learning should be central in teaching, and each class period should serve to promote spiritual growth through prayer and/or Bible devotion. Faculty members will also engage in advising and mentoring students.Faculty members are to work with their deans and their department chairs in all matters related to their teaching assignments, and other duties. This will include the creation and posting of syllabi, attendance at faculty council meetings and commencement services, participate in professional development activities, and follow all university policies.Faculty will follow stated procedures and meet identified deadlines when carrying out requested reporting responsibilities such as grade reporting, Annual Reports, periodic student progress reports, attendance verification, accreditation reports, and other reports as designated by the President and Provost.WORK SCHEDULE:This is a full-time teaching position with classes meeting during the regular workday (8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m., Monday-Friday) or weekday evenings, if needed. As part of their duties, full-time professors are required to maintain at least ten (10) regularly scheduled office hours each week.
