Experienced Mental Health Crisis Specialist for 988 Chat/Text Services – Part-Time, Remote Opportunity with Flexible Scheduling

About the Role
We are seeking a compassionate and experienced Mental Health Crisis Specialist to join our 24/7/365 mental health crisis/suicide prevention focused team. As a remote position, you will handle incoming chat/text messages through the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline (NSPL), also known as 988, providing brief clinical screenings, risk assessments, and appropriate service linkage for individuals who are experiencing emotional distress. This is a part-time opportunity, working Friday, Saturday, and Sunday from 6pm-2:30am CST, with Monday to Thursday off.
Key Responsibilities
- Provides telephonic or chat clinical screenings and risk assessments to individuals in crisis
- Answers crisis contacts via the chat/text platform to assess for suicide, safety, and identify appropriate community resources to best meet individual needs
- Conducts follow-up calls for individuals who are deemed moderate to high risk for suicide
- Meets the ethical and clinical standards in compliance with all accreditation
- Actively participates in ongoing supervision, training, and team meetings
- Assists in administrative tasks as needed
Essential Qualifications
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- A Bachelor's degree in behavioral science, Psychology, Social Work, or a related field, or be a Certified Peer Recovery Specialist
- Six months to one year of related crisis experience
- Effective communication skills via written, verbal, in-person, and virtual methods
- High-level customer service skills and professional etiquette
- Demonstrated knowledge and competency in providing service linkage and referrals for programs, services, and other community resources
- Knowledge of suicide assessments and skill in providing crisis intervention
Preferred Qualifications
While not required, the following qualifications are preferred:
- Experience working in a crisis or mental health setting
- Familiarity with the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline (NSPL) and 988 services
- Knowledge of trauma-informed care principles and practices
- Experience working with diverse populations and communities
