About the Position

The ParaProfessional - Safe School - Secondary position is a unique and rewarding role that requires a strong and diverse skillset. As a ParaProfessional, you will be responsible for monitoring and supervising students who require disciplinary supervision, assisting teachers and administrators in preparing and implementing behavior modification plans, and providing tutoring and supplemental instruction to students. You will work closely with teachers, administrators, parents, and students to create a supportive and inclusive learning environment that promotes academic success and social growth. Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor and supervise designated students requiring disciplinary supervision, ensuring their safety and well-being at all times.
  • Assist teachers and administrators in preparing and implementing behavior modification plans, providing individualized support to students as needed.
  • Provide tutoring and supplemental instruction to students, helping them to catch up on missed work or to improve their understanding of specific subjects.
  • Supervise an in-school disciplinary classroom, study hall, or other designated suspension or detention facility, maintaining a safe and respectful environment for all students.
  • Prepare and maintain documents, reports, records, files, and related documentation of student activities, violations, progress, and behaviors, ensuring accuracy and confidentiality at all times.
  • Initiate and maintain contact with parents on student activities, incidents, behaviors, and violations, keeping them informed and involved in their child's education.
  • Assist students with behavior modification, conflict management and resolution, making correct choices, recognizing consequences, and other related social skills, promoting positive relationships and a sense of community.
  • Perform school grounds, lunchroom, hallway, parking lot, and other monitoring and safety duties, as assigned, ensuring the overall safety and security of the school environment.

Essential Qualifications and Skills

To be successful in this role, you will need to possess a combination of education, experience, and skills that demonstrate your ability to work effectively with students, teachers, and administrators. The essential qualifications and skills for this position include:

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent required, with a preference for classroom or other instructional experience.
  • Ability to follow written and oral instructions, observe district policies and procedures, and maintain confidentiality at all times.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, teachers, and staff members.
  • Ability to monitor and handle or remove students presenting disruptive, aggressive, or other disciplinary or safety problems, using de-escalation techniques and strategies to resolve conflicts peacefully.
  • Knowledge of school and district rules, codes, standards, and expected student behaviors, as well as disciplinary and behavior modification methods, techniques, and objectives.
  • Ability to prepare, implement, and document behavior modification plans and programs, using data and evidence to inform practice and drive student success.
  • Basic knowledge of educational procedures and objectives, including classroom instruction and presentation, preparation of teaching materials and aids, classroom management, testing and grading, tutoring, and student-teacher relations and interactions.

  • Classroom or other instructional experience, with a strong understanding of educational procedures and objectives.
  • Experience working with students who have behavioral or emotional challenges, with a proven track record of success in supporting students with diverse needs.
  • Knowledge of conflict resolution and mediation techniques, methods, and objectives, with the ability to apply these skills in a variety of contexts.
  • Ability to operate classroom instructional equipment and standard office equipment, including a personal computer, with proficiency in software applications such as Microsoft Office.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple responsibilities effectively.
