Remote Engineering Manager – Partner API Platform Leadership & 3rd‑Party Integration Strategy (Travel & Hospitality Technology)

Remote, USA Full-time Posted 2025-11-03

Why Workwarp?

Workwarp is a fast‑growing travel‑tech company that powers millions of vacation‑rental experiences worldwide. Our mission is to transform the way hosts and guests interact with accommodation platforms by unlocking the power of third‑party (3P) software ecosystems. We build the bridges that let hosts seamlessly manage bookings, pricing, cleaning services, and guest communications across the most popular vacation‑rental sites—including Airbnb, Vrbo, and Booking.com.

At Workwarp we thrive on curiosity, collaboration, and a relentless focus on delivering value to our customers. Our culture celebrates bold ideas, encourages continuous learning, and rewards engineers who bring creativity to complex integration challenges. If you want to shape a platform that will be used by product teams across an entire industry, this is the place to make a lasting impact.

Position Overview

We are looking for a seasoned Engineering Manager to lead the Partner API team. In this role you will own the end‑to‑end strategy, design, and delivery of a scalable platform that connects Workwarp’s core products with a growing network of third‑party services. You will work closely with senior technical leaders across the organization, influence product roadmaps, and mentor a high‑performing engineering group that sets the standard for API excellence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Strategic Vision & Planning: Define and communicate a multi‑year roadmap for the Partner API platform, aligning technical decisions with business goals and market opportunities.
  • Architecture & Design: Lead the design of robust, secure, and highly available APIs, data pipelines, and integration layers that will serve internal product teams and external partners.
  • Technology Leadership: Evaluate, select, and champion technologies (e.g., REST, GraphQL, gRPC, event‑driven architectures, API gateways, OAuth 2.0) that best fit the platform’s scalability and security requirements.
  • Team Development: Recruit, coach, and retain top engineering talent; foster a culture of mentorship, code quality, continuous improvement, and psychological safety.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration: Partner with product managers, UX designers, data scientists, and business development teams to translate partner requirements into technical specifications.
  • Operational Excellence: Implement observability, monitoring, and incident‑response processes to ensure platform reliability and rapid resolution of production issues.
  • Governance & Compliance: Ensure API contracts adhere to security standards, data‑privacy regulations (GDPR, CCPA), and industry best practices.
  • Thought Leadership: Represent Workwarp at conferences, webinars, and industry forums; publish whitepapers or internal docs that showcase platform innovation.
  • Continuous Delivery: champion CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and progressive rollout strategies to reduce time‑to‑market for new integration features.

Essential Qualifications

  • 9+ years of professional software engineering experience, including at least 3 years in a technical management role overseeing large‑scale, mission‑critical systems.
  • Proven track record building public or partner‑facing APIs that are consumed by external developers or services.
  • Deep understanding of API design principles, authentication/authorization mechanisms, rate‑limiting, versioning, and contract testing.
  • Hands‑on experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure) and container orchestration (Kubernetes, Docker).
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor engineers, foster engineering maturity, and drive adoption of best practices across multiple squads.
  • Excellent communication skills—both written and verbal—and the ability to influence senior stakeholders.
  • Strong problem‑solving mindset; comfortable navigating ambiguity and making data‑driven decisions.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with travel‑or hospitality‑technology domains, especially vacation‑rental management systems.
  • Background in building event‑driven architectures, streaming platforms (Kafka, Pulsar) or asynchronous messaging patterns.
  • Familiarity with API‑management tools such as Kong, Apigee, or AWS API Gateway.
  • Hands‑on exposure to security certifications (SOC 2, ISO 27001) and compliance frameworks.
  • Track record contributing to open‑source projects or publishing engineering blogs.
  • Advanced degree (MS/PhD) in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.

Core Skills & Competencies

  • Leadership & Influence: Ability to inspire, guide, and align a diverse team toward shared objectives.
  • Architectural Vision: Capacity to see the big picture while diving into technical details when needed.
  • Customer‑Centric Thinking: Understanding of partner needs and translating them into elegant, developer‑friendly APIs.
  • Data‑Driven Decision Making: Use of metrics, A/B testing, and performance analysis to iterate on platform improvements.
  • Collaboration: Strong partnership skills with product, design, security, and operations teams.
  • Adaptability: Comfort with fast‑moving environments, rapid priority shifts, and evolving market demands.

Career Growth & Learning Opportunities

At Workwarp we view every employee as a long‑term partner in our success. As an Engineering Manager you will have access to:

  • Leadership Development Programs: Structured coaching, 360‑degree feedback, and executive mentorship to sharpen your managerial acumen.
  • Technical Innovation Labs: Time allocated each quarter for engineers to explore new technologies, prototypes, or research initiatives.
  • Cross‑Functional Rotation: Opportunities to work closely with product, data, or security teams, broadening your perspective and influence.
  • Conference Sponsorship: Funding to attend industry events such as API World, QCon, and Travel Technology Summit.
  • Education Reimbursement: Support for advanced degrees, certifications (e.g., AWS Solutions Architect, Certified Kubernetes Administrator), and online courses.

Work Environment & Culture

Our remote‑first philosophy puts trust, autonomy, and results at the forefront. While the role is fully remote, we encourage periodic in‑person meet‑ups, team retreats, and virtual coffee chats to maintain a strong sense of community.

Key cultural pillars include:

  • Inclusivity: We celebrate diverse backgrounds and perspectives; inclusive hiring practices and employee resource groups are integral to our DNA.
  • Transparency: Open communication channels, regular all‑hands, and clear roadmaps keep everyone aligned.
  • Ownership: Engineers are empowered to take end‑to‑end responsibility for their services, from design through production support.
  • Well‑Being: Flexible hours, mental‑health days, and a robust Employee Assistance Program ensure you can bring your best self to work.

Compensation, Perks & Benefits

Workwarp offers a market‑competitive salary package, complemented by a comprehensive benefits suite designed to support you and your family:

  • Performance‑based bonuses and equity participation.
  • Full medical, dental, and vision coverage for employees and dependents.
  • Generous paid time‑off (PTO) policy, plus parental leave and family‑care assistance.
  • Home office stipend, high‑speed internet reimbursement, and ergonomic equipment allowance.
  • Wellness programs, virtual fitness classes, and meditation subscriptions.
  • Access to a learning platform with thousands of courses and technical labs.
