About the Role

We're seeking an experienced Full Stack Database Operations Manager to join our team. As a key member of our DbOps team, you'll play a critical role in driving success by leveraging your diverse skillset in database management, DevOps, and cloud-first technologies. Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and guide the DbOps team in prioritizing the backlog and technical approach, as well as hiring and supervising team members.
  • Collaborate and partner with various stakeholders across Brightly to drive database management and DevOps initiatives.
  • Develop and enhance our approach to database architecture, management, monitoring, and automation with a DevOps mindset.
  • Enhance the effectiveness of database tools and services to optimize efficiency and cost.
  • Develop and implement data security, retention, and integrity policies and procedures to ensure data protection.
  • Implement, improve, and track Database Service Level Agreements (SLAs), including Recovery Point Objective (RPO) and Recovery Time Objective (RTO).
  • Refine and automate regular processes, track issues, and document changes to optimize efficiency and cost.
  • Enhance the scalability and performance of existing database structures to meet business needs.
  • Guide Continuous Delivery/Continuous Integration (CD/CI) processes and approaches to update data and databases.
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest technology trends, particularly cloud-first technologies.
  • Report on objectives, work, and status to stakeholders and the organization.
  • Perform capacity planning, including future storage requirements, to ensure optimal database performance.

What You Need

To be successful in this role, you'll need:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related discipline, or equivalent work experience.
  • 7-10 years of experience supporting SQL Server in an enterprise environment.
  • 2-3 years of experience managing a team.
  • Strong analytical problem-solving skills, including troubleshooting.
  • Experience with most (but not necessarily all) of the following:
    • AWS (Azure a plus)
    • Strong SQL, T-SQL, PL/SQL skills
    • SQL Server, Snowflake, PostgreSQL, Redis, DynamoDB, Couchbase, RedShift
    • SentryOne, Datadog, CloudWatch
    • Jenkins, DACPACs, Redgate tools
    • Bitbucket, GitHub, SVN
    • PowerShell, Bash, Python (C# or GO a plus)
    • Ansible, Terraform, CloudFormation, CDK, SAM

What Makes You a Standout

We're looking for candidates with:

  • Multi-Cloud experience (a plus)
  • Experience with SQL Clustering and Availability Groups and database replication
  • Experience with monitoring and provisioning SQL Server in AWS/Azure
  • Willingness to be on 24x7 on-call rotation and respond to production outages
  • Ability to automate redundant tasks using scripts, jobs, and other technologies
  • Strong communication, partnership, teamwork, and influencing skills
  • Experience with source control, with a database engineering background
  • Advanced analytical organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

The pay range for this position is $130,000 - $180,000, and the annual incentive target is of the base salary. The actual wage offered may be lower or higher depending on budget and candidate experience, knowledge, skills, qualifications, and premium geographic location.
