About the Opportunity

Are you a data‑driven finance professional who thrives on turning complex cost information into strategic insights? If so, we invite you to join a world‑class technology company that continuously reshapes the way people live, work, and connect. As a Remote Commodity Financial Analyst, you will be an integral part of the Worldwide Procurement Finance team, influencing decisions that affect product pricing, margin performance, and overall financial health across the organization’s global supply chain.

Why This Company?

Our client is a renowned global technology leader celebrated for breakthrough products such as smartphones, personal computers, wearables, and cutting‑edge services. The company’s culture is built on a foundation of imagination, inclusion, and relentless pursuit of excellence. Employees are empowered to collaborate across borders, bring diverse perspectives to the table, and innovate at the intersection of design, engineering, and finance. By joining this team, you will contribute to a mission that “makes something wonderful and shares it with the world,” while working alongside some of the most talented managers, engineers, and marketers on the planet.

Key Responsibilities

In this role you will own the end‑to‑end financial analysis of critical commodity categories that power the company’s product portfolio. Your day‑to‑day activities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Forecast Development: Build, maintain, and continuously refine commodity cost forecasts that feed into monthly purchase‑price variance models and gross‑margin projections.
  • Variance Analysis: Perform detailed reconciliations of actual versus forecasted costs, identifying root causes of cost swings and presenting actionable recommendations.
  • Supply‑Chain Collaboration: Partner with operations, sourcing, and supplier management teams to resolve cost‑related issues and to support strategic sourcing decisions.
  • Data Integration: Consolidate and validate cost data from internal ERP systems, supplier invoices, and third‑party market sources, ensuring integrity and completeness.
  • Quarter‑End Accounting: Prepare and post necessary accounting entries that accurately reflect commodity costs on the financial statements, collaborating closely with the accounting group.
  • Reporting & Visualization: Design and deliver clear, compelling visualizations (e.g., Tableau dashboards) that translate complex data into digestible insights for senior leadership.
  • Ad‑hoc Projects: Lead or contribute to special initiatives such as cost‑reduction programs, pricing strategy reviews, and supply‑chain process re‑engineering efforts.
  • Stakeholder Communication: Articulate analytical findings in plain language to non‑technical audiences, tailoring messages for executives, product managers, and cross‑functional partners.

Essential Qualifications

To succeed in this high‑visibility role, you should demonstrate the following core qualifications:

  • Professional Experience: Minimum of 2 years of relevant finance or accounting experience, preferably within a technology, manufacturing, or commodity‑focused environment.
  • Educational Background: Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business Administration, or a closely related field. Equivalent professional experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • Analytical Skills: Proven ability to work with large data sets, perform variance analysis, and extract strategic insights that influence decision‑making.
  • Technical Proficiency: Working knowledge of Excel (advanced formulas, pivot tables, macros) and familiarity with an ERP system (SAP, Oracle, etc.).
  • Communication: Demonstrated skill in presenting complex analyses to senior leaders and non‑technical stakeholders with clarity and confidence.

Preferred Qualifications & Nice‑to‑Have Skills

While not mandatory, the following qualifications will set you apart from other candidates:

  • Extended Experience: 3–5 years of finance or accounting experience, particularly in commodity cost management, supply‑chain finance, or procurement analytics.
  • Data‑Visualization Expertise: Passion for information design with hands‑on experience in Tableau, Power BI, or similar tools; ability to turn raw numbers into compelling visual stories.
  • Programming & Data‑Science Skills: Exposure to SQL, Python, R, SAS, or Dataiku for data extraction, transformation, and statistical modeling.
  • Advanced Planning Tools: Experience with SAP BPC, Hyperion, or other budgeting and forecasting platforms.
  • Project Leadership: Track record of initiating, scoping, and delivering projects with minimal supervision, demonstrating strong self‑management and ownership.
  • Critical Thinking: Ability to identify patterns, connect disparate data points, and propose innovative solutions to complex cost challenges.
  • Collaborative Mindset: A team‑first attitude, comfortable navigating cross‑functional environments and building strong relationships with suppliers, engineers, and product managers.

Core Skills & Competencies for Success
