In return, you receive a competitive salary, an attractive benefits package, and a culture that rewards ambition, collaboration and continuous learning.

Key Responsibilities – What You’ll Do Every Day

  • Lead Complex Litigation. Take ownership of all phases of commercial disputes, including pleadings, evidence gathering, discovery, settlement negotiations, and trial advocacy.
  • Client Relationship Management. Build and maintain trusted advisor relationships with senior corporate clients, investors, financial institutions and private individuals.
  • Team Leadership & Mentoring. Supervise, coach and develop junior lawyers and paralegals, providing constructive feedback and fostering a high‑performance culture.
  • Strategic Business Development. Identify opportunities to expand Capital’s market share, contribute to proposal writing, and support the growth of the Disputes team.
  • Legal Project Management. Oversee case files, manage budgets, maintain accurate time‑recording, and ensure compliance with internal WIP (Work‑In‑Progress) reporting.
  • Thought Leadership. Publish insights, contribute to internal knowledge‑sharing platforms, and stay abreast of the latest developments in commercial law and related practice areas.
  • Cross‑Functional Collaboration. Work closely with colleagues in corporate, finance, employment, intellectual property and real estate teams to deliver integrated solutions.
  • Travel as Required. Attend client meetings, court hearings and firm events in both Cardiff and London, ensuring a visible presence and strong relationship building.

Essential Qualifications – What You Must Bring

  • Professional Qualification. Qualified solicitor or barrister with a current practising certificate in England & Wales (or equivalent).
  • Relevant Experience. Minimum 5‑7 years of solid experience in a reputable commercial litigation practice, preferably within a Tier‑1 firm.
  • Track Record of Success. Demonstrable experience handling high‑value, complex disputes across a range of sectors (e.g., banking, technology, construction, real estate).
  • Client Development Skills. Proven ability to generate and nurture client relationships, with a focus on delivering commercial value.
  • Exceptional Communication. Strong oral advocacy, persuasive written skills, and the ability to translate legal concepts into clear business advice.
  • Leadership Potential. Experience managing junior staff, delegating work, and fostering a collaborative team environment.

  • Experience with cross‑border litigation or arbitration.
  • Previous exposure to regulatory investigations or enforcement actions.
  • Academic achievements such as a first‑class law degree or a postgraduate qualification (e.g., LLM, MBA).
  • Membership of professional networks (e.g., CILEx, Chartered Institute of Arbitrators).
  • Fluency in a second language to support international client work.

Core Skills & Competencies – The DNA of Success

  • Analytical Thinking. Ability to dissect complex facts, identify key legal issues and propose innovative solutions.
  • Problem‑Solving. Thrive under pressure, make sound decisions quickly, and adapt strategies as cases evolve.
