Primary Responsibilities

As a Power Electronics Electrical Engineer at Siemens, your primary responsibilities will include:

  • Developing components for large AC drives, power supplies, and other power electronics technologies
  • Designing, analyzing, and simulating power electronics circuits, magnetic components, and control strategies for large AC drives and power supplies
  • Developing test methods for design qualification and assisting with the product development process from initial design testing to final quality testing
  • Troubleshooting large AC drive failures, evaluating, and implementing improvement methods
  • Interfacing, communicating, and leading projects with other operations, including foreign contacts, on common development projects
  • Developing new or integrating existing simulations into core product and/or control models
  • Delivering technical presentations to Lead Engineers and documenting design and simulation results into technical reports
  • Performing a range of additional ad-hoc power electronic duties to support the wider team

Requirements and Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A BS degree in Electrical Engineering with 3+ years of experience or an advanced degree with 1-2 years of experience
  • Demonstrated experience in simulation and design of power electronics
  • A broad knowledge of the field of specialization, with successful completion of moderately sophisticated assignments
  • Experience in using system simulators such as Matlab/Simulink, Ansys Simplorer/Twin Builder/Maxwell, and/or Spice
  • Proficient software development skills in C++ and Python
  • Ability to travel up to 5% of the time
  • Authorization for employment in the United States, without requiring employer-sponsored work authorization

Preferred Experience and Knowledge

While not essential, the following experience and knowledge would be highly desirable:

  • Experience in developing solutions for AC motor drives
  • Algorithm development and deployment
  • Power electronics, big data, and machine learning
  • Multiphysics flow, finite element analysis (FEA), grid generation, heat transfer, fluid dynamics, transient/non-linear flow, and numerical analysis
  • Microcontroller and/or microprocessor experience
  • Demonstrated knowledge of organization's business practices and issues
