Key Responsibilities
As a Long Term Substitute School Counselor, your key responsibilities will include:
- Delivering lesson plans as instructed by the regular classroom teacher and/or school administrators, including taking daily attendance.
- Ensuring the safety and wellbeing of all students within the assigned classroom and responding to emergency situations in a professional and calm manner.
- Maintaining a professional and positive rapport with all students, staff, administration, and others.
- Maintaining order and discipline in the classroom, conducive to effective learning.
- Clearly communicating expectations and adapting to individual learning needs, providing individual and small group instruction.
- Striving to implement assistive technology in instruction and meet individual student needs.
- Actively participating in professional development sessions to enhance your skills and knowledge.
- Performing other related duties as assigned by the Principal or appropriate administrator.
Essential Qualifications
To be considered for this role, you must:
- Hold at least one of the following licenses through the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE): Professional Educator License (PEL) or Substitute License (SUB).
- Have experience working with students, which is a significant plus.
- Be detail-oriented and able to follow written and verbal instructions.
- Have the ability to read, analyze, and interpret lesson plans, technical procedures, and textbooks.
- Have experience with technology equipment.
