Job Summary

We are inviting applications for a full-time Instructor of Advertising, Public Relations, or Media Design position. This is a three-year renewable position with a start date of Spring 2024. The successful candidate will teach three courses per semester, focusing on areas such as Advertising Strategy, Creative/Media Design, and Public Relations within the Bachelor of Science in Strategic Communication curriculum. Beyond teaching, the role involves a service obligation to the department and/or college, which will be determined in consultation with the department chair. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in at least one of the specified areas, a demonstrated commitment to inclusive pedagogies, and experience in mentoring a diverse range of undergraduate students.

Key Responsibilities

  • Teach three courses per semester in the Department of Advertising, Public Relations, and Media Design, focusing on strategic communication, advertising, public relations, or media design.
  • Contribute to the ongoing development of the Bachelor of Science in Strategic Communication curriculum, ensuring it remains innovative and relevant to industry needs.
  • Maintain relationships with the advertising and public relations industries to generate opportunities for students, including internships, guest lectures, and participation in professional associations.
  • Support student participation in advertising and public relations awards, competitions, and professional events, fostering a culture of excellence and community engagement.
  • Engage in service to the department and/or college, which may include committee work, advising student organizations, or contributing to diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives.

Essential Qualifications

To be considered for this position, applicants must have:

  • A master's degree in strategic communication, public relations, advertising, or a closely aligned field.
  • Experience teaching at the university level, with proven evidence of teaching quality and effectiveness.
  • Demonstrated experience developing communications strategies for nationally or internationally recognized organizations, corporations, and/or brands.
  • Experience working with senior management and conducting primary qualitative and quantitative research.
  • A commitment to and experience with inclusive pedagogies and the mentoring of a diverse range of undergraduate students.

Preferred Qualifications

While not required, the following qualifications are highly desirable:

  • A Ph.D. in strategic communication, public relations, advertising, or a closely aligned field.
  • Advanced experience in industry, with a portfolio of work that demonstrates expertise in advertising, public relations, or media design.
  • Experience with curriculum development and assessment, particularly in strategic communication programs.
  • A strong record of research and publication in areas related to strategic communication, advertising, public relations, or media design.
  • Leadership experience in academic or professional settings, with a proven ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders.

Compensation, Perks, and Benefits

The salary range for this position is $70,000-$75,000, with an excellent benefits package that includes medical, dental, retirement, paid time off, tuition benefit, and ECO Pass.
