What We’re Looking For
Dreambook is seeking a talented vector-style illustrator to bring our imaginative, story-driven worlds to life for children ages 3–8. Your work will be central to our generative Ai iPad story creation app, where kids create their own adventures by customizing characters, choosing settings, and tone and story topic.
You’ll be designing characters, worlds/settings, stickers, and other UI elements—all in a clean, charming vector style that matches the tone set by our current Art Director’s work
https://etherbrian.github.io/
Every asset should be layered, modular, and ready to mix-and-match, allowing children to build stories that feel personal and alive.
What you will create
• Characters: Fully layered and customizable assets for a character creator. The base character remains static in pose and expression, with interchangeable clothing, accessories, and other non-physical appearance layers.
• Worlds/Settings: Modular environments (layered foreground, mid-ground, background, props) for stories—ranging from classic locales like forests, castles, and spaceports to thematic scenes like “Be Kind to Others,” “First Day at School,” or “Overcoming a Fear.”
• Stickers & UI Assets: Playful, vector-based elements for use in the app’s interface and as collectible rewards.
• Creative Creatures - a set of characters (think playful monster) dedicated to teaching kids phonetics
Organize layered SVG/AI/PDF files for Retina iPad export (1×–4×) using clear naming conventions.
Jump in on character or UI assets when needed, keeping everything consistent with Dreambook’s style.
What You’ll Need
8+ years professional illustration experience and a portfolio of vector scene/environment work (games, apps, animation, or similar).
Mastery of Illustrator, Figma, Affinity Designer, or comparable vector tools—symbol libraries, path editing, asset optimization.
A kid-centric eye: bold shapes, friendly silhouettes, inclusive storytelling, and gentle emotional cues.
Excellent file-organization and communication habits in a distributed team.
Availability for 10–20 hrs/week with fast iteration on feedback.
Bonus: Lottie/SpriteKit animation skills, accessibility know-how, or prior children’s-product credits.
What We Offer
Equity compensation (no cash salary at this stage).
Flexible scheduling that meshes with freelance or part-time work.
The chance to shape a product that empowers kids worldwide to read, write, and imagine.
Growth potential as Dreambook scales—expanded hours and creative leadership opportunities.
