About the position
Responsibilities
• Is available to students for academic coaching/tutoring in clinical and laboratory courses.
• Is available to faculty for clinical and lab support during clinical and laboratory courses.
Requirements
• For clinical dental hygiene: NYS Registered Dental Hygienist.
• For clinical dental assisting: NYS Registered Dental Assistant and/or NYS Registered Dental Hygienist.
• Demonstrates and provides highly developed clinical skills, including preventive therapies, radiographic principles, interpretation and techniques, dental materials, 4-handed dental assisting, periodontal instrumentation, and advanced periodontal techniques.
• Ability to assist students to achieve entry-level competencies based on accreditation standards and program requirements.
• CPR & AED for Health Professionals - certified.
• Mandated Reporter Training, current 2025.
• Infection control/HIPAA compliant.
• Evidence of current NYS required continuing education units.
• Evidence of an understanding of a humanistic approach to clinical and /or didactic practices.
• Evidence of proficient communication skills (interpersonal, speaking, and writing).
• Evidence of proficient organizational skills.
• Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and patient management software.
• Desire to teach in person at local and or distance clinical site(s) in person.
• Commitment to supporting an inclusive environment on campus.
• Evidence of respect for and understanding of people with diverse backgrounds, abilities, and needs.
• Evidence of commitment to the philosophy of a comprehensive community college.
• Evidence of proficiency with technology.
• Experience and/or interest in developing and teaching online courses.
• Commitment to continued professional growth.
Nice-to-haves
• For Dental Assisting - Three or more years of experience as a full-time 4-handed dental assistant, clinical dental hygienist.
• For Dental Hygiene - Three or more years of full-time clinical dental hygiene experience.
• Knowledge of dental materials and procedural armamentarium.
• Bachelor's degree or higher in a related field.
• Teaching experience, general.
• Teaching experience in dental assisting, dental hygiene, and or dentistry.
• Clinical and/or didactic teaching methodologies coursework/continuing education.
• Knowledge of, or experience in, implementing a variety of teaching strategies.
• Awareness of the potential value of technology as a tool for teaching.
• Experience with computerized student record management.
• Bilingual and able to read, write, and speak Spanish, or other languages, proficiently.
Benefits
• Pay rate for Fall 2025 & Spring 2026: $40/hour with a certificate or associate's degree; $45/hour with a bachelor's degree or higher.
