About the Role
We're seeking an experienced Client Legal Services Paralegal Specialist to join our team in a remote setting. As a paralegal specialist, you will provide critical support to our attorneys, preparing pleadings and motions, facilitating the discovery process, and summarizing and analyzing research. This is a unique opportunity to work in-house with a leading insurance company, gaining a holistic understanding of our business operations and objectives.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with the identification and summarizing of relevant issues; continually monitor issues and update attorney, as appropriate
- Communicate with Claim Business Partners and Plaintiff Attorneys on case status
- Review new and proposed legislation and determine applicability
- Review new file assignments, draft initial pleadings (e.g., answer, motion, etc.), and draft discovery
- Prepare briefs to assist clients in presenting cases in small claims court
- Draft responses to discovery demands
- Assist clients in answering questions regarding discovery
- Review and serve responses to discovery demands
- Assist attorneys in preparing materials for trial, arbitration, or mediation
Requirements and Qualifications
To be successful in this role, you must possess the following qualifications:
- A certificate of completion of a paralegal program approved by the American Bar Association
- or A certificate of completion of a paralegal program at, or a degree from, a postsecondary institution that requires the successful completion of a minimum of 24 semester, or equivalent, units in law-related courses and that has been accredited by a national or regional accrediting organization or approved by the Bureau for Private Postsecondary and Vocational Education
- or A baccalaureate degree or an advanced degree in any subject, a minimum of one year of law-related experience under the supervision of an attorney who has been an active member of the State Bar of California for at least the preceding three years or who has practiced in the federal courts of this state for at least the preceding three years, and a written declaration from this attorney stating that the person is qualified to perform paralegal tasks
- or A high school diploma or general equivalency diploma, a minimum of three years of law-related experience under the supervision of an attorney who has been an active member of the State Bar of California for at least the preceding three years or who has practiced in the federal courts of this state for at least the preceding three years, and a written declaration from this attorney stating that the person is qualified to perform paralegal tasks
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience as a Paralegal with a focus on insurance defense or civil litigation
- Experience managing high-volume caseloads in a fast-paced legal environment
- Familiarity with legal procedures, including pleadings, discovery, motions, and court filings
- Excellent organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple cases and prioritize tasks effectively
- Strong written and verbal communication skills for drafting legal documents and correspondence
