Job Summary
The Academic Advisor I position is a fully remote role that involves advising students on various aspects of their academic and personal development. As an Academic Advisor I, you will be responsible for providing guidance on educational, career, personal, and social development needs, as well as referring students to relevant academic and personal resources. You will work closely with students to help them select appropriate courses, understand academic policies and degree requirements, and navigate their educational paths.
Key Responsibilities
- Student Advising: Provide guidance to students on their educational, career, personal, and social development needs, and refer them to relevant academic and personal resources.
- Course Selection: Assist students in selecting courses that align with their academic and career goals.
- Academic Policy Interpretation: Clarify and interpret academic policies and degree requirements to ensure students are aware of the resources available to them.
- Student Records Management: Maintain and update student files and records, ensuring compliance with FERPA regulations.
- Career Development: Facilitate programs that help students explore career and post-bachelor's degree options.
- Transition Support: Assist students in the transition from high school to college and provide appropriate referrals to University offices and resources.
- Academic Progress Monitoring: Monitor student academic progress and provide developmental programming focused on student academic needs.
- Academic Probation Support: Advise, monitor, and work closely with students on academic probation and those returning from academic suspension.
Requirements
Essential Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree: A bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
- Related Work Experience: One (1) year of related work experience in academic advising, student support, or a related field.
Preferred Qualifications
- Higher Education Experience: Experience working in higher education, particularly in an online or remote setting.
- Academic Advising Training: Completion of academic advising training or certification programs.
