Job Summary

A Carter Lumber Truss Designer plays a critical role in our company, ensuring that drawings are produced accurately and timely based on blueprints provided by customers. The ideal candidate will have a strong knowledge of commonly used concepts and practices within the construction industry, as well as a belief in the mission and goals of our company. As a Truss Designer, you will be responsible for designing plans for the production of roof and floor trusses, analyzing and troubleshooting designs, and communicating with production teams, customers, and Store Managers to ensure designs are accurate throughout the process.

Key Responsibilities

  • Designing: Creates design illustrations based on blueprints to produce working drawings for fabrication, completes and finalizes designs for production and assembly, and evaluates designs to ensure that design standards are being met.
  • Analyzes and Troubleshoots: Reviews and analyzes specifications, blueprints, engineered drawings, and related designs to determine factors affecting design of the wall, truss, and engineered wood components.
  • Support: Communicates with production teams, customers, and Store Managers to ensure designs are accurate throughout the process, and assists stores in responding to questions/concerns from customers.

Requirements and Qualifications

To be considered for this position, you should have:

  • Knowledge of the basic aspects of construction, including a strong understanding of building codes and regulations.
  • Previous experience using truss, engineered wood product, or wall panel design software, with a high level of proficiency in MiTek software (5+ years of experience preferred).
  • A high level of knowledge in the application of the products being designed, including roof and floor trusses, and engineered wood components.
  • Competency in basic mathematics, geometry, and trigonometry, with the ability to apply these principles to design and problem-solving.
  • Knowledge of reading architectural and structural plans, including the ability to interpret and analyze complex designs.
  • Ability to analyze, troubleshoot, and problem-solve, with a strong attention to detail and a methodical approach to design and analysis.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate with production teams, customers, and Store Managers.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and Outlook, with the ability to learn and adapt to new software and systems.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in a fast-paced design environment, with a strong ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Knowledge of industry-specific software and systems, including design and analysis tools.
  • Certification or training in truss design, engineering, or a related field, with a commitment to ongoing learning and professional development.
