Job Overview

As a Teacher Assistant in our district, you will play a vital role in supporting students with a wide range of needs, including academic, behavioral, life skills, and social-emotional instruction. You will work closely with teachers and other professional staff to provide individualized instruction, develop activities and projects, and implement specialized instruction and accommodations. Your primary goal will be to help students achieve their full potential and succeed in their educational journey.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist students with academic subjects, social-emotional-behavioral learning content, independence, and community access/job skills
  • Develop activities and projects to support lesson plans for individual and small groups of students
  • Provide tutoring to individual or small groups of students
  • Implement specialized instruction, accommodations, and routines as outlined by professional staff and/or each child's Individualized Education Plan (IEP) or related Behavior Intervention Plan
  • Assume the role of the teacher in their absence, dependent on behavior, and/or interventions
  • Prepare classroom or learning environment with needed supplies and materials, support file maintenance, and necessary record keeping
  • Communicate directly with students, families, and professional staff in a courteous and confidential manner
  • Instruct and/or supervise students in and out of the classroom, on field trips, on playground, and/or during other activities
  • Attend in-services, building meetings, training, and/or school functions required by the position and/or location
  • Provide behavior intervention prevention and intervention support, which may include physical interventions
  • Prepare and administer medication under the supervision of the RN after delegation
  • Administer first aid and/or CPR to ill or injured students following the guidelines from the State of Colorado
  • Provide care to students as outlined in an Individualized Health Care Plan
  • Obtain, document, and interpret student data as needed, and utilize interpreted data to alter student programming when needed
  • Demonstrate flexibility when specific tasks of the job are adjusted to meet identified needs
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Essential Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing
  • Interpersonal skills and ability to work with students, families, and staff from diverse backgrounds
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality in all aspects of the job
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks with frequent interruptions, use time efficiently, demonstrate attention to detail, follow instructions, and respond to management direction

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bilingual oral and written communication skills
  • Experience working with students with diverse needs and abilities
  • Knowledge of Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) and Behavior Intervention Plans
  • Training in CPR, first aid, and medication administration
  • Experience with personal computers and peripherals, office software, and typical office equipment
