Remote 8th-Grade Tutor (Mon–Thu 12–4 pm ET + Flexible Fri 4 hrs) — $50/hr → up to $80/hr
Role: Part-time remote tutor for a motivated 8th-grade student at Dwight School (NY), in remote classes 8:00–12:00 ET. Afternoons focus on coaching, research support (responsible use of ChatGPT), skill-building, and producing top-scoring assignments.
Schedule
• Mon–Thu: 12:00–4:00 pm ET (4 hrs/day)
• Friday: 4 flexible hours (student off classes; set a mutually convenient block)
• Start: ASAP
Compensation
• $50/hour (= $200/day; ~20 hrs/week)
• Performance raise to $80/hour after you consistently demonstrate impact and fit
What you’ll do
• Challenge in Math: Push a high-ability student who has completed 10th-grade-level math—diagnose gaps, accelerate problem-solving, and extend with proofs, modeling, and contest-style thinking.
• History & Civics with Passion: Explain history/current events clearly and energetically; connect primary sources to today. Lead candid, truth-seeking discussions—evidence-based, respectful, and unafraid of difficult topics—so the student understands justice, recognizes injustice (e.g., harm to civilians, the human costs of war), and thinks ethically.
• Writing & Study Skills: Guide research, outlining, drafting, and revision to meet rubrics with the student’s own words and ideas.
• Planning & Accountability: Map deadlines, create weekly plans, and track progress.
• Family Updates: Share concise progress notes and next steps.
What you bring
• Motivated, disciplined, reliable—you hold a high bar and care about character.
• Strong academic standing (current college student or graduate preferred).
• Strength across core subjects; especially rigorous math and engaging humanities instruction.
• Comfortable using productivity tools and AI responsibly (for brainstorming/source discovery)
• Prior tutoring/TA experience with middle-school learners is a plus.
Integrity & AI Use
ChatGPT may be used for ideation, scaffolding, and source-finding. All final work must be original student work and comply with school honor codes.
