Job description: Position Summary
The Laboratory Specialist II conducts tasks within a wide scope of laboratory functions under the management and supervision of superiors. This position includes working as part of the Consulting and Technical teams to serve client laboratories in the field as well as conducting data interpretation and reporting. Data interpretation involves raw data analysis, prescription verification, historical data confirmation and reporting. The incumbent is expected to take the initiative to own, and effectively complete projects as assigned by superiors.
As a second-level Laboratory Specialist, the incumbent is expected to continuously improve on laboratory skills as well as professional presence to effectively serve and interact with clients directly. The incumbent is expected to actively seek and take advantage of opportunities to learn new skills and acquire expertise on relevant scientific, technological, and industry trends.
The working hours for this position are M-F; 6:00PM - 10:00PM EST; however, there may be an occasional need for the individual to work outside those standard hours.
Essential Functions & Basic Duties * Completing routine and non-routine data verification, certification, review, and reporting.
• Provides service to client laboratories as assigned by superiors.
• Identifies and keeps managers informed of issues identified in the course of job duties.
• Actively contributes to effective problem-solving and troubleshooting efforts.
• In close collaboration with Lab Management, Quality and Consulting managers, completes tasks for needed corrective and preventive actions following assessments and audits.
• Supports the implementation of continuous improvement initiatives from superiors to enhance laboratory quality with reference to accepted standards and requirements.
• Maintain patient confidentiality per HIPAA regulations.
• Verification of QC data.
• Prioritize work to maintain turn-around-time with direction from supervisor.
• Interaction with administrative and laboratory staff.
• Participate in the instruction and training of others.
• Recognize unusual and unacceptable specimens and handle appropriately.
• Perform other laboratory functions such as maintain laboratory records, quality control charts, maintenance logs and various logs as needed.
• Contributes to inventory and consumable supply management services functions as assigned.
• Performs other duties as directed.
Additional Responsibilities * Completes mandatory training and professional development as required or requested.
• Attends company meetings as required or requested.
• Ensures adherence to all State and Federal laws, guidelines and regulations including compliance with CLIA and CAP regulations.
• Maintain HIPAA requirements at all times.
• Adheres specifically to all company policies and procedures, Federal and State regulations and laws.
• Performs other duties as directed.
• This position may require occasional overnight travel.
Minimum Qualification Requirements
Education
Bachelor’s degree in in Chemistry, Biology, or Medical Laboratory Sciences.
Experience
Minimum of 1 year laboratory experience during which this included some experience with industrial/clinical laboratories, and mass spectrometry.
Certification(s) and/or License(s) * Medical Technologist Certification preferred.
• Must meet the requirement for California Department of Health, Clinical Toxicologist Scientist License.

Other
Work is normally performed Monday through Friday during normal business hours, however, may require alternate work hours 24 hours a day, seven (7) days a week.
Individuals appointed or promoted to a position in this class will be required to serve a probationary period of three (3) months. Performance will be carefully evaluated during the probationary period. Continuation in this classification will be contingent upon successful completion of the probationary period.
