About the Role of a Barre Instructor

As a Barre Instructor at Life Time, you will have the opportunity to teach a variety of group fitness classes, including our signature LifeBarre program. This full-body workout combines classic ballet moves with Pilates and traditional conditioning exercises to provide a fun and challenging experience for our members. You will be responsible for creating a positive and supportive environment, educating participants on proper form and technique, and promoting our programs and services to encourage continued class attendance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Teach a variety of group fitness classes, including LifeBarre, Barbell Strength, Warrior Sculpt, Xtreme, Strike, Kettlebell Kombine, and Gluteus Maxout
  • Develop positive relationships with class participants and provide guidance on correct form and alternative moves
  • Clean and organize studio space after each class and ensure a safe and welcoming environment
  • Promote Life Time Fitness promotions, programs, products, and services to encourage participation and membership sales
  • Provide current and motivating music for each class and ensure appropriate language and content
  • Attend meetings and training sessions to stay up-to-date on new programs and industry developments

Essential Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will need to possess the following qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 1 or more years of fitness instructor work experience
  • CPR/AED Certification
  • Minimum of one of the following Group Exercise Certifications: National Association of Sports Medicine (NASM), American Council of Exercise (ACE), American Fitness Aerobic Association (AFAA), Aquatic Exercise Association (AEA)
  • Ability to perform an aerobic activity for the duration of a class, which may include standing, walking, climbing, balancing, running, crawling, and kneeling
  • Ability to routinely lift 50 pounds and occasionally 100 pounds
  • Ability to perform exercises specific to the assigned class

Preferred Qualifications

While not essential, the following qualifications are preferred:

  • Experience teaching Barre or other group fitness classes
  • Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and kinesiology
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing situations
  • Basic computer skills and familiarity with software applications
