Job Summary

We are seeking a Lecturer to teach three upper-level courses in our Sustainable Agriculture concentration: Agroecology, Tree and Fruit Crop Production and Management, and Agriculture Society and Natural World (a General Education course). The courses will be delivered primarily online/asynchronously, with one course having a weekly in-person lab session on Wednesday mornings at our Turlock campus. This is a one-semester appointment, and we are looking for a candidate who can start immediately.

Key Responsibilities

  • Teach three upper-level courses in Sustainable Agriculture, including Agroecology, Tree and Fruit Crop Production and Management, and Agriculture Society and Natural World
  • Develop and deliver high-quality online and in-person instruction, ensuring engaging and effective learning experiences for students
  • Manage and facilitate weekly in-person lab sessions for one of the courses, providing hands-on learning opportunities for students
  • Assess student learning and provide constructive feedback, using a variety of assessment methods and tools
  • Participate in departmental meetings and contribute to the development of the Agriculture program

Essential Qualifications

  • A Master's degree in Sustainable Agriculture, Agroecology, or a related field
  • Prior college-level teaching experience, preferably in online or hybrid formats
  • Relevant industry experience in sustainable agriculture or a related field

Preferred Qualifications

  • PhD or ABD in Sustainable Agriculture, Agroecology, or a closely related field
  • Demonstrated proficiency in online college-level instruction, with experience using learning management systems and other educational technologies
  • Evidence of field experience in sustainable agriculture and agroecology, with specific application to California agriculture

Skills and Competencies

To be successful in this role, you will need to possess excellent teaching and communication skills, with the ability to engage and motivate students in online and in-person settings. You should be knowledgeable about sustainable agriculture practices and principles, with a strong understanding of the latest research and trends in the field. You will also need to be proficient in using educational technologies, including learning management systems, and be able to adapt to new technologies and teaching methods.

Compensation and Benefits

The compensation for this appointment will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. As a member of the 23-campus CSU System, we offer an extremely competitive benefits package. Newly hired lecturers with terminal degrees are placed in Range 3 of the salary schedule, and others are normally placed in Range 2. Starting salaries are usually at or near the minimum of the range.
