About the Role
As an Academic Instructor at the Hawaii Job Corps Center in Makawao, HI, you'll play a vital role in providing academic instruction to students in accordance with approved curricula. You'll be responsible for motivating and counseling students, developing lesson plans, and maintaining a clean and organized training environment conducive to learning. This is a full-time position with a competitive salary of $48,080 per year, plus a comprehensive benefits package.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide students with basic direction, instruction, and assistance in designated areas of instruction.
- Motivate and counsel students in areas of behavior, training, personal problems, or study habits, and coordinate with counselors and staff as necessary to resolve issues affecting student training.
- Develop and prepare lessons in accordance with approved curriculum guidelines, and recommend curricula changes and supplemental materials.
- Maintain an organized, clean training environment that promotes a positive learning atmosphere.
- Participate on student assessment panels, prepare required documentation and evaluations, and administer and correct tests.
- Maintain progress and attendance reports, including required CIS updates, and control the use of equipment and supplies.
- Develop and conduct enrichment programs as assigned, and utilize workplace language and behavior expectations in the classroom.
- Participate in student behavior management programs, assist in developing community linkages and volunteers for academic training/tutoring, and participate in student employability programs and activities.
Essential Qualifications
To be successful in this role, you'll need:
- A Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
- A valid teaching certificate in the state of Hawaii or passing scores on the PRAXIS exams.
- At least one year of related experience, preferably working with youth.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, and computer proficiency.
- A valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with online teaching platforms.
- Previous experience working in a career technical training environment.
