Job Summary

As a Financial Clearance Representative Associate - Remote Patient Engagement and Financial Services, you will be responsible for completing the financial clearance process and creating a positive first impression of our services to patients, their families, and external customers. You will articulate complex information in a clear and concise manner, ensuring that patients and guarantors understand their financial responsibilities and what to expect from our services.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform financial clearance processes by interviewing patients, collecting and recording necessary information, and pre-registering patients for services.
  • Educate patients on pertinent policies, including Patient Rights, HIPAA information, consents for treatment, and visiting hours.
  • Verify insurance eligibility, complete automated insurance eligibility verification, and document information in Epic.
  • Confirm that a patient's health insurance is active and covers their procedure or visit.
  • Provide proactive price estimates and work with patients to ensure they understand their financial responsibilities.
  • Inform families with inadequate insurance coverage of financial assistance programs and refer them to financial counseling.
  • Review and analyze patient visit information to determine whether authorization is needed and secure authorization prior to service.
  • May provide mentoring to less experienced team members on revenue cycle, payer issues, policy issues, and other relevant topics.
  • Meet and maintain department productivity and quality expectations.

Requirements and Qualifications

Essential Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED (or higher).
  • Must be 18 years or older.
  • 6+ months of experience with Insurance and Benefit Verification, Pre-registration, and/or Prior Authorization activities in healthcare business office/insurance operations.
  • Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office Products.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Associate degree or Vocational degree in Business Administration, Health Care Administration, Public Health, or a related field of study.
  • Experience working with clinical staff.
  • Previous experience working in outpatient and/or inpatient healthcare settings.
  • Experience working with clinical documentation.
  • Previous experience working with patients' clinical medical records.
