About the Company and Role

Workwarp is partnering with Disney to find a highly skilled Principal Software Engineer who can drive the development of scalable, high-availability systems that support billions of requests daily. As a key member of the CXD team, you will be responsible for crafting the data backbone that enables seamless content consumption for Disney's global audience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with engineering and product teams to understand project goals and objectives.
  • Conceptualize and design systems that meet the ambitious targets of Disney Streaming, leveraging your technical expertise and innovative problem-solving skills.
  • Develop prototypes and detailed Request for Comments (RFCs) to validate your ideas and ensure alignment with project requirements.
  • Lead engineering teams through the implementation phase, providing guidance and oversight to ensure successful project execution.
  • Work closely with various stakeholders, including product management, technical program management, and operations teams, to capture requirements, drive execution, and maintain transparency.
  • Define and evolve operational models to support highly available and performant systems, ensuring optimal system reliability and efficiency.

Essential Qualifications and Skills

To succeed in this role, you must possess:

  • A broad perspective on problem-solving and the ability to support cross-functional projects.
  • Strong programming skills in Java and other object-oriented languages, along with a solid grasp of computer science fundamentals, including data structures, algorithms, and databases.
  • Experience designing and building multi-system, event-driven framework models, with a focus on reactive design principles.
  • Proficiency in building and managing services on Amazon Web Services (AWS), with a deep understanding of cloud infrastructure.
  • A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Systems, Programming, Electrical or Electronics Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.

Preferred Qualifications and Skills

While not mandatory, the following skills and experiences are highly desirable:

  • Cloud-native infrastructure design expertise.
  • Experience with reactive programming on JVM languages, particularly Java.
  • Background as a service manager, with experience creating and managing observability frameworks.
  • Familiarity with streaming platforms such as Kafka, Kinesis, or Flink.
  • Hands-on experience managing AWS services using Terraform or other Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools.
  • Experience with distributed NoSQL data stores like DynamoDB, Cassandra, Scylla, and Couchbase.
  • Ability to work effectively with remote global teams across different time zones.
