We're seeking an exceptional Director of Enterprise Strategy Development to join our team and help shape our long-term strategic direction.

About the Role

As Director of Enterprise Strategy Development, you will lead a team of business strategists in identifying and harnessing enterprise growth opportunities. You'll apply your analytical problem-solving skills, critical thinking, and passion for innovation to drive business decisions and advance our long-term strategic efforts. This is a high-visibility role that requires strong leadership presence, excellent communication skills, and the ability to influence without authority.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead multiple project teams on strategy consulting-like engagements to identify and harness enterprise or business unit growth opportunities.
  • Develop new concepts and businesses that meet future needs in the fast-evolving multi-channel retail landscape by understanding retail trends, competitors, and consumers.
  • Become a thought partner to senior executives, influencing decisions in line with business unit and enterprise strategy.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally and effectively influence without authority to drive business decisions and advance long-term strategic efforts.
  • Coordinate and collaborate with partners across other Insights, Strategy, and Innovation teams to maximize the strategic impact of work.
  • Be responsible for the long-term development of Direct Reports and coach and develop project team members (Principals, Leads, and Sr. Analysts).
  • Act as a core member of the Enterprise Strategy Development leadership team, prioritizing resources, setting overall team direction, and representing the team's professional and fun culture.
  • Work closely with VP, Enterprise Strategy and Growth, and Sr. Director, Enterprise Strategy Development, in plotting future strategic opportunities for company growth.

Essential Qualifications

To succeed in this role, you'll need:

  • A 4-year or advanced degree, with an MBA preferred.
  • A minimum of five years of work experience after graduate school in strategic leadership roles or equivalent of 10+ years of strategic management experience.
  • Prior experience in engagement/project leadership with a top management or innovation consulting firm or in a Fortune 100-level corporate strategy group.
  • An understanding of industry practices and the competitive retail landscape across channels and segments.
  • Demonstrated ability to work on multiple, disparate projects at the same time, simultaneously managing working team, partner, and senior executive relationships.
  • A track record of developing and owning critical stakeholder relationships (VP/SVP/EVP-level) across the enterprise to help influence and guide strategic recommendations.
  • 3+ years of people management experience, including leading and coaching leaders of people.

  • The ability to champion a culture of bold strategic thinking, inclusive of hiring, training, and influencing.
  • Demonstrated success in motivation and leadership, including strong people leadership and team-building skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including presentation and leading strategic dialogue for SVP/EVP-level leaders.
  • The ability to take risks, challenge the status quo, and work under ambiguous circumstances.

Work Environment and Culture

This role may be considered for a Remote or Hybrid work arrangement based on Target's needs. As a Remote team member, you'll work full-time from home or an alternate location, with up to 4 trips to HQ per year. As a Hybrid team member, your core role may be performed either remotely or onsite at a Target location, depending on your role, team, and tasks.
