We're now seeking an experienced Biomedical Research Grant Writer to join our team in a newly created role that bridges iO and the Ochsner Research department. As a key member of our team, you'll play a vital role in developing grant proposals to support groundbreaking research in clinical medicine, artificial intelligence, healthcare redesign, and more.
About the Role
As a Biomedical Research Grant Writer, you'll work closely with renowned physician-scientists to craft compelling grant proposals and applications to federal and non-federal funding agencies. Your expertise will be instrumental in propelling our research initiatives forward, tackling complex health issues, and driving innovation in healthcare.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and write grant proposals to support cutting-edge research initiatives in collaboration with physicians and scientists.
- Conduct comprehensive literature reviews to inform grant proposals and ensure they are contextualized and relevant.
- Collaborate with research teams to take grant applications through every step of the process, from completing forms to developing budget and project plans.
- Foster collaborative research between researchers and clinicians across multi-disciplinary fields.
- Work alongside the Office of Sponsored Programs staff to seek, manage, and administer grants.
- Train colleagues throughout the organization in grant procurement and writing.
- Stay abreast of new funding sources and research initiatives that align with the capabilities and interests of the Ochsner research community.
Essential Qualifications
To succeed in this role, you'll need:
- A doctoral degree (MD, PhD, DO) in a relevant field.
- At least 3 years of relevant professional-level experience in grant writing, with a proven track record of securing federal, foundation, and/or industry grant funding.
- Broad-based knowledge of funding sources, including federal agencies and pharmaceutical companies that support biomedical research.
- High-level technical writing skills, with the ability to present complex information clearly and professionally.
- Strong organizational and prioritization skills, with the ability to work independently under strict deadlines and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Preferred Qualifications
While not essential, the following qualifications will be considered a plus:
- Post-doctoral training in biomedical research.
- A Nationally Recognized Grant Writing Certification.
- Experience working in a healthcare research environment.
