About the Role

As a Secondary English Language Learners Paraeducator, you'll play a vital role in supporting the instructional program within our assigned classrooms. Under the guidance of certified teachers, you'll work closely with students who are learning English as a second language, helping them to develop their language skills, build confidence, and achieve academic success.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supporting Student Learning: Assist students individually or in small groups to introduce and/or reinforce learning concepts, curriculum, assignments, and/or lesson plans. Adapt and administer classroom activities, assignments, and assessments to meet the diverse needs of students.
  • Monitoring and Supervising Students: Supervise students in various settings, including classrooms, playgrounds, field trips, libraries, and lunchrooms. Implement discipline strategies in accordance with school district and building policies to ensure a safe and positive learning environment.
  • Clerical Support: Assist in making copies, obtaining, organizing, and maintaining classroom materials, equipment, and work areas. Provide clerical support to teachers and staff as needed.
  • Collaboration and Communication: Confer with certified teachers to assist in evaluating student progress, success, and recordkeeping. Provide verbal feedback and/or written documentation and report observations and incidents related to specific students.
  • Emergency Response: Respond to emergency situations, such as injured students or fights, and direct students to appropriate personnel for resolution.
  • Professional Development: Attend meetings and in-service training as required to stay updated on best practices and district policies.

Essential Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you'll need:

  • A high school diploma or equivalent
  • English language skills and the ability to communicate effectively with students, teachers, and staff
  • Oral and written communication skills, with the ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Interpersonal relations skills, with the ability to work cooperatively with diverse individuals
  • Basic math skills and the ability to adapt to various teaching methods
  • Bilingual language skills are preferred but not required
  • A criminal background check is required for hire
  • First Aid certification is preferred

Preferred Qualifications

While not essential, the following qualifications will be considered advantageous:

  • Experience working with school-age children, particularly English language learners
  • Operating knowledge of personal computers and peripherals, as well as typical office equipment
  • Familiarity with office productivity programs, such as Microsoft Office Suite
