Key Responsibilities
- Provide support services to students with special needs, helping them benefit from the educational program
- Work effectively with minimal supervision, performing tasks efficiently to meet deadlines
- Assist students with daily living activities, behavior management, discrete trial training, instructional support, social skills training, and task redirection
- Help implement intervention strategies identified in individualized educational plans (IEP)
- Prepare and distribute program materials, set up classroom equipment, and maintain program areas
- Support an inclusive educational environment, helping students with disabilities participate in learning activities
- Assist with behavior management plans, facilitate student mobility, and help students use assistive and/or augmentative devices
- Maintain accurate records, submit required paperwork on time, and provide prompt notification of personal delays or absences
- Foster a positive and respectful relationship with co-workers, students, and parents
- Stay up-to-date with advances in technology associated with work assignments and maintain applicable credentials
Essential and Preferred Qualifications
To be considered for this role, you must meet the following essential qualifications:
- 48 semester hours or 72 quarter hours or proof of successful completion of the ParaProfessional Assessment
- Valid state department of education license/permit as determined at the time of appointment
- Meets all mandated state/federal criteria (i.e., approved degree, completion of requisite higher education credit hours/courses, or acceptable score on an authorized professional standards test)
- Behavioral management skills substantiated by training/work experience
- Ability to work with students with diverse needs, including those with physical, emotional, or cognitive disabilities
Preferred qualifications include:
- Experience working with students with special needs
- Knowledge of Braille, sign language, or other assistive technologies
- Ability to communicate effectively with students, teachers, and parents
- Experience with discrete trial training, social skills training, and other evidence-based practices
