As a Data Center Engineering Leader, you will be responsible for overseeing the strategic and tactical aspects of server farm engineering projects, ensuring the highest levels of safety, security, availability, and cost management.

About the Role

As a Data Center Engineering Leader at Amazon, you will be functionally responsible for multiple data centers and will play a critical role in ensuring the smooth operation of our server farm engineering activities. Your primary responsibilities will include:

• Acting as an ambassador for security within the team and promoting safe work practices across the region
• Managing a team of Server Farm Engineering Operations; including all aspects of people management, performance management, and technical leadership
• Ensuring effective and efficient management of daily Server Farm Engineering Operations
• Developing and improving operational workflows and risk management
• Serving as a subject matter expert in the data center's mechanical, electrical, and control systems
• Ensuring all operational KPIs and metrics are measured and met
• Driving automation and improving the quality and quantity of services
• Managing large-scale events or outages, and coordinating with various teams to resolve issues
• Performing vendor management for colocation facilities
• Ensuring compliance with all relevant safety and health policies and procedures
• Managing all aspects of the data center's critical physical infrastructure
• Participating in on-going projects and driving them from conception to completion
• Coordinating with multiple external vendors to ensure adherence to contracted SLAs
• Effectively managing the team's budget and expenses
• Serving as the night-time on-call Server Farm Supervisor for the data centers in the region
• Providing support for weather events, planned outages, and unplanned outages
• Researching and writing technical reports to drive change and document lessons learned

Key Responsibilities

Strategic and Tactical Leadership

As a Data Center Engineering Leader, you will be responsible for providing strategic and tactical leadership for server farm engineering projects. This will include:

• Developing and implementing strategies to ensure the highest levels of safety, security, availability, and cost management
• Ensuring compliance with all relevant policies and procedures
• Managing and mitigating risks associated with data center operations

Team Management

You will be responsible for managing a team of Server Farm Engineering Operations, including:

• Providing guidance and coaching to team members
• Managing performance and providing feedback
• Developing and implementing training programs

Technical Expertise

As a Data Center Engineering Leader, you will be expected to provide technical expertise in the following areas:

• Mechanical, electrical, and control systems
• Automation and control systems
• Data center operations and management

Requirements

Essential Qualifications

To be considered for this role, you will need to have:

• A Bachelor's degree in a relevant engineering discipline or equivalent work experience in the Mechanical/Electrical Field
• 6 years of experience in a leadership position with 5 or more direct reports
• 2 years of experience managing directors
• 10 years of experience working in critical infrastructure operations

Preferred Qualifications

The following qualifications are preferred:

• A strong understanding of the electrical and mechanical systems involved in critical data center operations
• Proven experience in people management and team development
• Ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex issues
• Experience with SLAs and proactive issue detection and reporting
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
