Job Summary
The Behavior Support Assistant will work under the direction of a designated administrator to provide support to behaviorally challenged individuals or small groups of students. The ideal candidate will have experience working with students with special needs, a strong understanding of behavior management techniques, and excellent communication and interpersonal skills. This is a part-time position, working 5.5 hours per day, 5 days per week, for 9.5 months per year.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide support to students with behavioral challenges, including monitoring, redirecting, and modifying student progress
- Develop and implement activities to assist students in improving academic performance, self-esteem, social skills, and positive behaviors
- Collaborate with teachers, parents, and other school staff to create a comprehensive support plan for students
- Provide training and supervision to students involved in school programs such as Cross-Age or Peer Tutoring, SARB, etc.
- Perform other related duties as required
Requirements and Qualifications
Essential Qualifications:
- Graduation from high school or its equivalency is required
- Course work in child development, psychology, behavior management, or child education is desirable
- Two years of experience working with "at-risk" or special needs students in an educational setting is required
- One year of experience may be waived for candidates who have obtained a bachelor's degree in social work, liberal studies, child development, or a related field
- A valid Basic/Standard First Aid Certificate and a valid and current CPR Certificate (Child and Adult) are required
- A valid Class C, California Driver License, a good driving record, and use of a private automobile may be required
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bilingual (Spanish) candidates are highly encouraged to apply
- Experience with behavior management techniques, such as Positive Behavior Interventions and Support (PBIS)
- Knowledge of special education laws and regulations
- Experience working with students with diverse needs, including physical/learning disabilities, emotional/behavioral problems, or those from dysfunctional families

Compensation, Perks, and Benefits
