What You Will Do

As an Underwriting Assistant, you will provide critical support to our underwriters, ensuring seamless transaction processing and policy administration. Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Providing underwriting with pre-quote transaction support, including:
    • Retrieving reports and data from various sites, such as OSHA, Safer, Crime, Experience Mods, and Risk Meter.
    • Validating data entry into underwriting workbooks and systems, including auto classification, GL classification, schedule of underlying, and losses.
    • Assisting in verifying proper documentation regarding coverage and limits prior to completing transactions.
    • Communicating with producers to obtain required information to complete transactions.
  • Assuming responsibility for completing transactions after underwriting binds an account, including:
    • Utilizing internal systems to complete policy drafting, verify data accuracy, approve policy drafts within authority, and set up policies within our electronic document management system.
    • Completing booking of premium within the appropriate system and confirming premium posted properly.
    • Issuing approved policies, performing reviews of underlying policies, reporting policy data to third-party reporting agencies, and resolving criticisms from those agencies.
    • Processing post-bind transactions, including endorsements, cancellations, and reinstatements.
  • Contributing to the Crum & Forster team environment and continuous improvement philosophy by:
    • Communicating and collaborating with other departments to answer policy questions, resolve issues, and identify ways to streamline processes.
    • Working with system support to test releases and verify successful programming.
    • Assisting in quality verification of all policy transactions, processes, and procedures.

What You Will Bring

To succeed as an Underwriting Assistant at Crum & Forster, you will need:

  • Knowledge of insurance processes and procedures, with an emphasis on surplus lines of business.
  • A college degree preferred.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to take initiative.
  • Solid computer skills, including Word, Excel, email, and internet-based technology.
  • Excellent math and data analysis skills, with the ability to interpret and manipulate report data.
  • The ability to work in a fast-paced environment, move quickly from one project to another, and prioritize tasks effectively.
  • A positive outlook, service mentality, and ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.

Compensation and Benefits

We offer a competitive compensation package, including:

  • A salary range of $44,000 to $64,600 per year, depending on experience and qualifications.
  • Discretionary equity (stock) based compensation and/or performance-based variable pay programs.
