About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and passionate Long Term Substitute Teacher for Elementary Music and Orchestra to join our team. As a Long Term Substitute Teacher, you will play a vital role in providing classroom coverage for a teacher/counselor who is absent for an extended period. You will be responsible for guiding the learning process, ensuring a safe and well-managed classroom environment, and maintaining high standards of professionalism and integrity. Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver lesson plans as instructed by the regular classroom teacher and/or school administrators, including taking daily attendance
  • Ensure the safety and wellbeing of all students within the assigned classroom and respond to emergency situations in a professional and calm manner
  • Maintain a professional and positive rapport with all students, staff, administration, and others
  • Maintain order and discipline in the classroom, conducive to effective learning, and clearly communicate expectations to students
  • Adapt to individual learning needs, providing individual and small group instruction as needed
  • Strive to implement assistive technology in instruction and meet individual student needs
  • Actively participate in professional development sessions to enhance your skills and knowledge
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the Principal or appropriate administrator

Essential Qualifications

  • Applicants must hold at least one of the following licenses through the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE): Professional Educator License (PEL) or Substitute License (SUB)
  • Experience working with students is a plus, and a strong understanding of music education principles and practices is essential
  • Must be detail-oriented and able to follow written and verbal instructions
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret lesson plans, technical procedures, and textbooks
  • Experience with technology equipment is desirable

Preferred Qualifications

  • A degree in Music Education or a related field is preferred
  • Previous experience as a substitute teacher or in a related role is highly desirable
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with students, staff, and parents
  • Strong classroom management skills, with the ability to maintain a safe and respectful learning environment
  • Ability to adapt to changing circumstances and priorities, with a flexible and positive attitude

Compensation, Perks, and Benefits

We offer a competitive salary package, with a daily rate of $256.68 (effective after 15 days of continuous employment in the same assignment; retroactive to 1st day of assignment). You will also accrue 1 sick day after working 30 consecutive days under the same assignment.
